How the desire to lose weight can turn into incontinence: the experience of Billie Eilish, stories of ordinary women, doctor’s advice

The stars are talking more and more openly about the problems with regards to their health. Billie Eilish also decided on an important confession, telling that she suffered from incontinence as a teenager.

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish is only 19 years old, but she has already faced a whole list of problems. Fans thought that Turrett’s syndrome could be considered the star’s main ailment – a genetic disorder of the nervous system, due to which a person develops motor features, as well as hyperactivity and a tendency to unreasonably shouting obscene words.

However, Billy herself used to consider being overweight her main problem.

During her school years, the future star was seriously fond of dancing and dreamed of developing in this direction. But the teachers constantly hinted to her that all this was impossible due to her large physique.

“Then I had a terrible relationship with my body. I danced a lot, but at the same time I was starving. I remember when I was 12 years old, I even took special pills that promised to lose weight. But they only made me wake up in a wet bed in the morning! It’s just madness … “- admitted in an interview with Billie Eilish.

Cope with the manifested enuresis (urinary incontinence) the schoolgirl was helped by going to a psychologist, as well as giving up dubious ways to lose weight.

We do not presume to judge what kind of drug Billy was taking, but we think it was something from the field of diuretics – diuretics that sometimes really try to use as a weight loss aid.

Thematic groups of those wishing to lose excess weight are filled with advice on taking diuretics on a regular basis. And usually young girls are subject to such advice. First, they are very limited in funds, and diuretics are very affordable. Secondly, the girls do not yet understand how seriously they can come back to haunt the warnings from the sections “Contraindications” and “Side effects”.

Diuretics put a serious strain on the body’s excretory system. As a result, without them, you can disrupt the normal functioning of the kidneys – and earn constant swelling, excessive loss of beneficial trace elements and anemia.

But experts attribute enuresis to functional disorders while taking diuretics – that is, to such ailments that go away rather quickly after stopping the medication.

“People who lose weight on diuretics often experience neuroses, stress, lack of energy and sleep disturbances. In this case, quite often the sleep becomes stronger – you can easily not feel that there was an urge and omission of some of the urine. This is not considered a major disorder. Because ordinary enuresis requires intensive treatment – by itself, after stopping diuretics, it cannot go away, ”explains the candidate of medical sciences, urologist-andrologist of the network of clinics “Family” Sergey Stoilov.

In addition, when taking diuretics, it is extremely important to follow the instructions of the specialist who prescribed them. In a situation with self-administration during weight loss, a person does not think about how to drink a diuretic correctly. He does not comply with the necessary (exactly necessary, not reinforced) water regime, which increases the risk of incontinence and water deficiency in the body.

Looking at such a number of “buts”, I really want diuretics to cease to be considered the secret of fast weight loss. And they were used exclusively for medical purposes.
