How often do you need to change the dish sponge

The original kitchen design, author’s interior, home appliances according to the latest fashion are not the most important thing. It is more important that the space where you create your culinary masterpieces is clean and safe. To comply with such an important rule, it is necessary not only to carry out a general cleaning, but also to conduct an audit of kitchen paraphernalia, dishes, decor every week, month. Why this should be done, Wday.ru was told by infectious disease doctor Anna Timofeeva.

Wash hand towels and dishes more often.

– If you don’t wash your tea towel regularly, E. coli can lodge in it. As you know, rod-shaped bacteria are quite capable of causing severe food poisoning. And what’s most annoying is that some of their strains do not respond to antibiotics. It is a mistake to think that contact with a dangerous bacterium is possible only through unboiled water and stale food. E. coli lives well in the average kitchen, and its most favorite place there are kitchen towels.

Unfortunately, we do not always wash our hands with sufficient quality, and by wiping them on a towel, we leave some bacteria on it. Who come back to us, you just have to wipe your hands with a towel before eating or after washing the dishes.

– The same unpleasant story happens with sponges that accumulate microorganisms. Of course, hot water kills bacteria, but it does not kill spore cultures, which die only when boiled or exposed to alkali. That is why a sponge is dangerous because fat and water accumulate in its porous structure, and this is exactly what bacteria need so much for their vital activity.

Cleaning cloths are suitable for single use only.

Also, do not store broken dishes, broken pans and pots. And so that the curtains do not smell like kitchen, change them once a month.

– If you use microfiber cloths for cleaning, then in order to avoid the growth of bacteria in the wet fibers, they must be hung to dry after each cleaning. The same applies to cloth rags, if you take care of them properly, they will last for several years, non-woven – about a month. But viscose roll napkins are really disposable.
