The more often the better method does not work here.
If shampoos and conditioners should be used as needed (as often as needed), then masks should not be overused. “Overfeeding” the hair with nutrients, you can get the opposite effect – weight and fragility.
The fact is that the hair and scalp have their own system of regulation and protection, and by applying masks every day, we roughly interfere with the work of natural mechanisms. Even natural masks can be very intense with nutritious and fatty oils and some herbal extracts.
Moreover, some of the components of the masks are very specific and can cause a sudden reaction if applied too often. So, useful oils of coconut, argan and jojoba, when used more than 1-2 times a week, can cause dry and unruly hair, although this is certainly not expected from them. And the constant use of mustard (for example, in masks to enhance hair growth) can cause increased sebum secretion, itching and other unpleasant consequences.
Since the use of masks is an intensive care, the hair does not need it more often than 1-2 times a week. With a very damaged hair structure, the mask is recommended to be used every third shampooing, in normal condition – every fifth. In general, the rule of the golden mean in this case is very relevant.
But what if your hair needs extra care? For example, if your hair has been bleached or dyed with a chemical dye, if it is very dry, burned out under the sun, falls out or grows very slowly?
Combine different products! Once a week, you can apply a nourishing mask over the entire length of the hair, once a week – with an oil mask (only on the ends and 10 cm in length from the bottom) and again – with a regenerating serum. In this case, the probability of “overfeeding” the hair with the same substances is minimal.
