How to stay awake while driving on long journeys
It is good if at the same time there are fellow travelers with whom you can talk and somehow get distracted from the sleep attack. If you have no one to talk to, it would be nice to sing along to the music playing in the salon. It is advisable to stop and do something like exercises (squats, bends) or actively move.
You need to concentrate your gaze on passing cars, and not on the road lanes, looking at which you can feel even more drowsy.
With a long journey, even if you don’t feel like sleeping, it is better to stop every 2 hours and, at least for a short time, get out of the car. You can warm up directly behind the wheel, rotating your head or something else.
Drink plenty of water and other liquids. The body will give a signal to remove it. Moreover, coffee, energy drinks or tea invigorate in themselves. You can wipe your face with water, it will also help you stay awake. Remember that warm tea is soothing and relaxing, while cold water invigorates.
Advice from an experienced trucker: when you are mercilessly sleepy, you need to periodically sniff a cut lemon. The lemon scent helps to concentrate. An orange will do, too. And if all else fails, mix a spoonful of instant coffee with cold Coca-Cola. You will get a powerful energetic!
But there is a better option: if you really want to sleep, then you need to stop on the side of the road and take a nap. After all, even a short nap can help for further safe movement.
