How much weight gain during pregnancy, how to gain weight
How much weight is gained during pregnancy depends on the woman’s lifestyle, her diet, and the weight of the child. Too large increases are detrimental to the health of the mother and cause complications in childbirth. But if a pregnant woman faces the opposite problem and does not gain weight at all, this will negatively affect the development of the baby.
How to gain weight during pregnancy?
The rate of weight gain during pregnancy is individual in each case. It is highly dependent on how much the woman weighed in her normal state.
For those who are overweight, an increase of 6 to 11 kg will be considered normal, with a normal weight it is allowed to gain from 11 to 16 kg, but if a woman was excessively thin, her gain should be 13-18 kilograms.
Normally, the absence of increases in the first trimester is allowed, a frequent culprit for this is toxicosis. By the 20th week, the weight will start to grow steadily, and by the end of pregnancy, it is perfectly normal to add up to 450 grams in one week.
If the weight grows poorly, this can affect the health of the baby. In order for it to be able to fully grow and develop, the following rules must be observed:
- The diet must necessarily contain protein foods – meat, fish, cottage cheese.
- You need to eat in moderate portions, but often – every 2,5-3 hours.
- If you need to be away from home for a long time, you need to take care of food in advance and take fruits, nuts, yogurt with you.
- It is imperative to take vitamin complexes. Vitamin C is useful for increasing appetite.
- It is useful to calculate the calorie content of your diet. The daily calorie intake should be increased by 15-20%. To calculate the daily rate, you can use special formulas.
Pregnancy is not the best time to diet. Meals should be balanced and regular. But do not try to gain weight due to unhealthy, heavy food – fast food, sausages, mayonnaise. Such food will not be beneficial. As a cooking method, you must choose boiling, steaming or stewing.
If a woman does not suffer from any diseases that require a special diet, her diet should contain sufficient amounts of meat, dairy and sour milk products, fish, vegetables and fruits, cereals, berries. You can eat seafood.
Regular and varied nutrition will provide the child with all the necessary nutrients. In this case, the weight gain will not go beyond the normal range.
