How much is a cold now? [WE CHECK]

What amounts do we leave at the pharmacy during the infection season? Usually, in the case of a cold or flu, we buy an antiviral drug, vitamins, throat pills or cough syrup. How much is it?

What medications do we buy during a cold?

The most common infections in the fall / winter season are colds or flu. Unlike angina, for example, these conditions can usually be treated with over-the-counter medications. Therefore, most often, instead of visiting a doctor, we focus on a pharmacy.

In the case of colds and flu, we primarily buy antiviral and antipyretic drugs. We usually fight the infection with vitamin C. Depending on the symptoms, we also buy cough syrup, rhinitis drops or lozenges to soothe a sore throat.

How Much Does a Cold Cost? We count

Now that we know which pharmacy products we need during the infectious season, we can calculate how much a one-time treatment will cost, i.e. how much money we will leave in the pharmacy when we happen to catch a cold or catch the flu virus.

A package of an antiviral drug costs an average of PLN 18-36. For a small package of an antipyretic drug, we will pay about PLN 5-10. Vitamin C costs from 4 to 20 PLN. We will spend from 10 to 30 zlotys on cough syrup. Runny nose drops cost from 6 to even 30 zlotys. For sore throat lozenges, we will pay an average of 8 to 25 PLN.

To sum up, by choosing the cheapest products from the list, we will spend PLN 51 on such a “cold kit”. In the most expensive variant, it will be PLN 151. So the difference is as much as PLN 100!

We used the catalogs of online pharmacies to perform the calculations. The cheapest and the most expensive products in a given category were taken into account.

Can it be treated cheaper?

Looking at the above calculations, it can be clearly stated that we can pay less or more for cold or flu medications, depending on which products we choose. And this means that these costs can be really reduced in a real way.
