The cost of treating COVID-19 at home – the first stage of the disease

Initially, I had the same COVID-19 infection as my sinusitis. I was convinced that it was this disease, especially since I have a tendency to it – I suffer from sinus disease with great regularity. So at this stage I took the same steps as usual in this situation: over-the-counter sinus medication, saline and water irrigations, infrared lamp irradiation, antiviral medication, and sore throat pills. Plus vitamin D and vitamin C.

I paid 116,94 zlotys for such a set in the pharmacy.

Although the above set always worked for me, this time it was different. After four days, my condition worsened, so I opted for teleportation. Diagnosis: sinusitis. I got a prescription for an antibiotic, a runny nose and a bronchodilator. I was also supposed to buy a probiotic and antipyretic drugs (with ibuprofen and paracetamol, to be used alternately).

The cost of the second stage of treatment was PLN 164,87 in total.

The cost of treating COVID-19 at home – the third stage of the disease

After I finished taking the antibiotic and other medications, my condition improved slightly. Unfortunately, only for two days. On the third day, I developed shortness of breath, loss of smell and taste, and increased temperature. So there was no longer any doubt what I really had. During the next teleportation, I was prescribed a second antibiotic, a nasal steroid, and a set of “auxiliaries” – an antiviral drug with zinc, calcium and two different sets of probiotics. This time the treatment worked. I recovered after the next few days.

The third time I left PLN 119,34 at the pharmacy.

After adding up all the drugs I have purchased, the final sum is 401,15 PLN. Obviously, this amount could have been lower if the treatment had been properly administered sooner. However, it would not be possible to avoid the first purchases – when nothing indicated the need for an antibiotic. Especially that at this stage, patients are only recommended drugs that reduce symptoms, such as cough syrup, if a tiring cough occurs.
