How much does a child sleep at 3 months: should, norm, hours, day

During the first year, the rhythm of the baby’s life is rapidly changing. How much a baby will sleep at 3 months depends on many factors. These include individual characteristics and waking hours. Despite this, there are average sleep times in pediatrics.

How much should a child sleep per day

Newborn children have an unstable psyche and an immature nervous system. Getting to know the world, they quickly get tired and need a long and high-quality rest.

How much a child will sleep at 3 months depends on his mental state

On average, they spend most of their time asleep. This takes them about 16 hours, while most of the time falls on the night.

The number of hours for wakefulness and daytime sleep

At 3 months, a child can stay awake no more than 2 hours in a row. This time includes playing with him, feeding, hygiene procedures and the process of laying down. The baby should not be allowed to overwork, as there will be difficulties during bedtime. If he starts rubbing his eyes and yawning, then he needs rest. It is better to lay the child down before he starts to be capricious and cry, that is, about 1, 15 after waking up.

During the day, the baby needs to rest for a total of 6 hours. In this case, the time should be divided into several parts. You can do it like this:

  • 2 long naps, 2 hours each;
  • 4 short, 40 min to 90 min each.

During a short time, you can rest with your baby, laying him down with your breast in your mouth. Since all children are individual, you need to select a regimen, taking into account the condition of the child. If he wakes up in a good mood, then the sleep time was sufficient for him. If not, then it is better to lay the baby down again, for example, by rocking in his arms or by offering the breast. This will allow him to calm down more quickly. In every case, daytime sleep cannot be at the expense of nighttime sleep.

At the age of 3 months, a certain mode of sleep and wakefulness is already formed. The kid is ready to go to bed early. The average night’s sleep is about 11 hours. It cannot be continuous, as the baby will wake up to feed.

To make it easier to lay down and get your baby ready for bed, do the following:

  • In the evening, exclude active and noisy games with the baby so that he does not get overexcited.
  • Unplug the TV and dim the lights.
  • Do not leave the lamp on overnight.
  • Place the baby in its own place.

These are the same rituals to ensure a restful and quality sleep.

Put your children to bed on time and rest with them.
