What is telemedicine?
An alternative to traditional medicine
The system of health services provided remotely
A solution limiting contact with the doctor
The system of health services provided remotely Next question
Telemedicine does not replace traditional forms of health care, but provides additional methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment of patients. It also does not limit contact with a doctor, but offers the possibility of using additional methods of contact, if they are sufficient in a given situation. Telemedicine is not only e-visits / telepaths, but also other remote health services, including telemonitoring, telecare and telerehabilitation.
Telemedicine is a solution that is used:
As a complement to traditional forms of medical care
Instead of traditional medical care
Just because of the COVID-19 epidemic
As a complement to traditional forms of medical care Next question
Telemedicine is one of the forms of providing medical care that existed even before the COVID-19 epidemic. Telemedicine services are based on systems enabling remote communication, including ICT systems. Telemedicine does not completely replace traditional forms of contact and patient care, but complements them.
What is teleportation?
This is only a conversation with your doctor on the phone
This is classic medical advice, with the difference that the doctor and patient are in different places
It is a remote consultation with a doctor and is of less value than a traditional visit to the office
This is classic medical advice, with the difference that the doctor and patient are in different places Next question
Teleporada is a remote consultation with a doctor, which does not require the patient to leave the house and go to the clinic. It is treated on an equal footing with traditional advice, therefore, during a doctor’s visit, the standard guidelines for contact with the patient apply, and the patient himself can receive a prescription, release or referral. There are various ways to make a telemedicine visit – it is not only a telephone contact, but also a video call or text chat. If necessary, the doctor can inform the patient about the need to go to a traditional in-patient visit.
What data can a doctor ask for during a screening?
Bank account number
ID number
PESEL
PESEL Next question
A telemedicine visit takes place remotely, therefore the doctor must confirm the patient’s identity. In addition, they may need a PESEL number, which is needed, for example, to issue an e-prescription, as well as to keep medical records. The personal data provided to the doctor is confidential.
During the TV visit, the doctor may not:
Perform a complete physical examination
Provide patient with e-prescriptions, e-referrals or e-waivers
Make a diagnosis
Perform a complete physical examination Next question
Television broadcast allows the doctor to issue an e-prescription, e-referral or e-certificate, as well as to make a diagnosis (as long as he obtains sufficient information about the patient’s health during remote contact). During the visit, the doctor does not have the opportunity to perform a full physical examination, as it requires physical contact with the patient. Nevertheless, it is possible to obtain partial data on the patient’s health from a distance, e.g. on the basis of observations or measurements made by the patient at home (e.g. with a thermometer or blood pressure monitor).
Telemedicine services may be provided:
Only by doctors
By doctors and nurses
By doctors, physiotherapists, midwives and nurses
By doctors, physiotherapists, midwives and nurses Next question
Not only doctors, but also nurses, midwives, physiotherapists and other medical professionals are entitled to provide teleports and remote patient care.
A telemedicine visit is justified in the case of:
Follow-up visit at the doctor
First visit to the doctor
In both of the above situations
In both of the above situations Next question
A telemedicine visit is a convenient way to continue treatment that has already been started, e.g. to monitor your health or extend your prescription for medications. This form of contact, the doctor also works as the first visit to a given specialist. Remote interview with the patient, discussion of symptoms or other health issues will allow the doctor to write a referral or prescribe medications, and, if necessary, to make an appointment.
What should be prepared before the TV viewing?
Insurance number or proof of payment for an appointment
Personal data, information on symptoms, previous treatment, medications taken, possibly test results
Information on health problems and printouts of medical records
Personal data, information on symptoms, previous treatment, medications taken, possibly test results Next question
Prepare yourself for a telemedicine visit, so the patient should prepare in advance personal data (including PESEL), information needed for a medical interview, including disturbing symptoms, current treatment (including hospital treatment), medications taken and their dosage. Test results may also be useful, which in the case of e-visits can usually be sent to the doctor in an electronic form before the visit. It is also worth considering what additional questions we have for the doctor so that we do not forget about them during the teleconsultation.
Telemedicine also offers more advanced solutions that allow (in real time) the exchange between the doctor and the patient during the TV visit:
Information on blood sugar, auscultation data, heart recording and test results
Results of imaging and laboratory tests
Electronic prescriptions
Information on blood sugar levels, auscultation data from a stethoscope, recording of heart rate and test results Next question
Modern telemedicine solutions allow for real-time transfer of data about the patient’s health. This applies not only to test results that can be sent to the doctor in an electronic version. Here you can pay attention to telemedicine devices that allow the patient to measure at home, e.g. sugar level (glucometer), heart function (holter, ECG) or auscultatory recording (remote electronic stethoscope).
Can I use telemedicine services for free?
No – these are paid services, available only privately
They can be provided free of charge by healthcare entities that have a contract with the National Health Fund
Telemedicine services are always free
They can be provided free of charge by healthcare entities that have a contract with the National Health Fund Next question
Remote medical visits are a service similar to traditional visits – this means that they can be paid or provided free of charge under a contract with the National Health Fund. Free telemedicine services (e.g. consultation with a GP) are offered, inter alia, by some telemedicine platforms (e.g. halodoctor.pl).
