The Ministry of Health has published new data on the number of SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus tests performed in Poland. In which voivodeships were the most samples tested, and in which the least tests were performed? Get to know the latest information on this topic.
The Ministry of Health publishes a report on the number of tests performed once a week. On September 14, the ministry announced that 2 samples have been tested so far (at 998:021 p.m. it was 15). The tests included 2 people, 998 infections were detected. What is the testing like in individual provinces? The ministry released the latest statistics.
Most tests for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 are still in Mazowieckie Voivodeship
Traditionally, the largest number of tests detecting coronavirus infection was performed in the Mazowieckie voivodship – 675. The second place is followed by the Śląskie Voivodeship – 236, and the third voivodeship with the highest number of tests is Wielkopolska – 349.
The following places are occupied by:
- Lesser Poland – 273 958
- Lower Silesia – 240 412
- Pomeranian – 232 211
- Lodz Province – 201 199
The number of samples tested depends on the number of laboratories approved by the Ministry of Health to perform such tests. There are 28 laboratories authorized to test samples taken from people suspected of being infected with coronavirus in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship. The Śląskie Voivodeship has 21 such laboratories, and the Greater Poland Voivodeship has 19. A complete list of laboratories in individual voivodeships is published by the Ministry of Health.

Opolskie, Lubuskie and Podkarpackie with the lowest number of tests
According to the statistics of the Ministry of Health from September 14, the fewest tests were carried out in the following voivodeships: Opolskie – 30 087, Lubuskie – 36 899 and Podkarpackie – 58 486.
As for the number of laboratories authorized to test samples for the presence of SARS-CoV-2, there are five in Opole, three in Lubuskie, eight in Podkarpacie.
In line with the strategy of the Ministry of Health, primary health care was included in the commissioning of tests for patients with respiratory infections. Healthcare physicians in the most obvious situations can order COVID-19 tests at the teleportation stage, without a personal examination. Additionally, the traditional visit, i.e. physical examination, is replaced by a second teleportation, also after 3-5 days, if symptoms persist. “We also do more targeted tests – we do mainly symptomatic people, hence there are fewer of them” – said Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski in an interview for “Dziennik Gazeta Prawna” (after PAP).
The ministry released people ending quarantine and isolation from the obligation to test. As Minister Niedzielski explained, reducing the scope of testing is not to detect a smaller number of infections, but to make room for examining patients referred by family doctors.
The Minister of Health also noted that work is underway to increase the base of drive-thru points to which family doctors will soon refer a larger group of patients. They will also run longer.
