How many teeth a child should have at 2 years of age: number of milk teeth
A healthy baby is the joy of parents. They are worried about the correct development of their child. One of the main questions that worries them is how many teeth a child has by the age of 2 years. It is also important to know how soon all the teeth will appear, and for what deviations you should consult a doctor.
How many teeth should a child have at 2 years
Teething is often accompanied by a deterioration in the well-being of the baby. He becomes moody, does not sleep well, refuses to eat. His temperature rises, his gums hurt. Therefore, mothers closely monitor the appearance of new teeth and want to know how many more units to wait until the norm.
According to WHO standards, a baby will grow from 2 to 16 teeth by the age of 20. If by this time there are fewer teeth, or they are growing in the wrong sequence, it is too early to panic. Three-year-olds usually have a full set of teeth – 20 pieces. If the pediatrician regularly examines the child, and the mother follows the doctor’s advice on the choice of foods, vitamins and minerals, then there is no need to worry.
Ideal if a two-year-old boasts tops and bottoms:
- incisors;
- lateral incisors;
- fangs;
- first molars;
In some children, second molars – chewing teeth above and below, appear up to 26 months. – on the lower jaw; and up to 33 months. – on the top. If the two-year-old doesn’t have them yet, it’s okay.
Why the number of milk teeth is less than normal
Milk teeth in two-year-olds do not always correspond to the standard. There are 12 of them, or even less, they can grow in the wrong sequence or with gaps. This is not considered a pathology. Remember that each baby has a different pace of development.
The order and speed of eruption are influenced by various factors:
- genetics;
- nutrition and vitamins;
- time of appearance of the first tooth; the earlier it appeared, the more teeth will grow by the age of 2, and vice versa;
- ecology;
- immunity.
It’s time to worry if the teeth do not appear for too long, or if the two-year-old has only 2-4 of them.
Negatively affect the appearance and condition of new teeth:
- long sucking on a pacifier – bad for the bite;
- lack of vitamins and minerals in the diet;
- sugary drinks – in order not to create a favorable environment for the growth of bacteria, children should not be given sweetened drinks at night, give clean water;
- lack of oral care;
- too little load on the jaws – you should not feed the crumbs only mashed potatoes.
However, in case of severe deviations, it is better to consult a doctor. This will help to notice pathology or carious teeth in time, which must be treated without fail. If the damaged first teeth are left unattended, permanent teeth will suffer. To get a Hollywood smile, teach your toddler to care for their teeth.
Thanks to proper nutrition and care, nature will take its toll: by the age of 3, all teeth will grow healthy and even.
