How many students should be in the class: number and standards by law
You can calculate how many students should be in a class by referring to legislation. However, everything is not so simple: the norms established several years ago were adjusted in 2015.
Class occupancy rate up to 2015
According to the “Model Regulations on a General Education Institution” clause 26 of 19.03.2001 No. 196, more than 25 people should not study in one class. The same standards are present in SanPiN 2.4.2.2821-10, that is, sanitary standards. This number of students allows teachers to cover all children in the educational process. When there are classes in computer science or a foreign language, students are divided into 2 groups.
The number of students in the class must meet the standards
However, there are many more students in the class, and this is a common situation. It is convenient for the school administration to “cram” up to 40 students into the classroom. This is due to the fact that teachers’ salaries depend on the number of students. The budgetary rate for the teacher is allocated for 25 schoolchildren. And since each teacher works for 1,5-2 times, the leadership goes to break the rules.
Number of students per class by law
In 2015, the Resolution of the Chief Sanitary Doctor No. 81 was issued with the following changes in sanitary standards:
- Clause 4.9 states that each student must have at least 2,5 m2 of classroom space, excluding the space allocated for furniture. Moreover, 2,5 m2 – with a frontal landing, but if group lessons are needed in the form of seminars, then the area increases to 3,5 m2 per student. Knowing the area of the office, you can calculate the allowable number of students.
- Clause 5.1 notes that the number of students in the school should not exceed the capacity of the project. For how many students the school was planned, so many should study in it. It is also noted here that each student should be provided with a work desk in accordance with the growth and the learning process.
Thus, the last resolution allows the class to be filled with any number of children, if the area allows. This does not take into account the capabilities of the teacher, which is why the learning process itself suffers.
The school administration can refer to this regulation when recruiting many children into the class. However, if all classes are overcrowded, you can try to operate on clause 5.1 of the same decree, which limits the school’s capacity to the number of students included in the project of this institution.
Changes in sanitary standards in 2015 allow increasing the number of students in the class above reasonable limits due to the area of the office. These norms can be calculated by removing the space occupied by furniture and educational equipment from the total area.
