In Poland, 4 thousand. 629 cases of Omicron. That’s 59,7 percent. all infections – according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health.
- Omikron is already the dominant variant in Poland. It is currently responsible for a greater number of infections than its predecessor, the Delta variant
- In order to detect which variant an individual is infected with, it is necessary to sequence the samples. In our country, this happens only in the case of about 1 in 100 positive tests
- In practice, this means that the actual number of Omikron cases in Poland is much higher. As he said in an interview with Medonet, lek. Bartosz Fiałek, there may be even several dozen times more of them

Omikron in Poland. Already 59,7 percent. all cases
On January 31, the Ministry of Health published the latest data on infections with the Omikron variant in our country. At the moment, we know for sure that 4 have already been infected with it. 629 people. This means that Omikron is already the dominant variant, accounting for 59,7 percent. all coronavirus infections in Poland.
Ministry of Health data is based on the results of a sample sequencing study. This way, it is possible to determine which variant of the coronavirus a person has become infected with. In our country, however, only a small percentage of all samples are sequenced. This is about 1 in 100 positive coronavirus tests.

Therefore, the actual number of infections with Omikron may be much higher, which the drug said in an interview with Medonet. Bartosz Fiałek.
— I think we have several dozen times more of these cases – he commented at the beginning of January, when the official number of Omikron infections was 52. – Their low number in Poland is due to two reasons: firstly, many people are not tested even in the presence of symptoms of infection, so these infections disappear. Secondly, remember that we detect a specific variant of the coronavirus through genomic sequencing. To find out whether we were infected with the Omikron variant or the Delta variant, we need to visualize the virus’s genetic material and see what mutations it contains to confirm which variant caused the infection. As far as I know, Poland sequences less than 1 percent. samples, or 1 in 100 positive tests. This is very little, compared to, for example, Scandinavia, the USA (where over a dozen percent of samples are tested) or Great Britain (almost 1/3), which is why the Polish data are simply unreliable. Nobody does it on purpose, of course, does not hide cases of infection with the Omikron variant. Simply because of these two factors, a lot of cases can escape us, he concluded.
