How to cook currant compote for the winter

1. Put gooseberries and currants (pre-washed) into jars.

2. Pour jars of berries with water to the top. Drain the water immediately into a saucepan, add 500 grams of sugar.

3. Boil water and sugar.

4. Pour the syrup over the berries in the jars.

5. Place the jars with gooseberry-currant compote in a pot of hot water (water should be three-quarters of the height of the jars), sterilize for 10 minutes.

6. Roll up jars of compote with lids.

Gooseberry – 1 kg

Currant (red or black) – half a kilogram

Sugar – 1,5 cups (300 grams)

Water – 2,5 liters

How to quickly cook gooseberry and currant compote

1. Sort gooseberries and wash in a colander. Pour the berries into a saucepan.

2. Sort out the currants and wash in a colander. Add the berries to the gooseberry saucepan.

3. Pour 2,5 liters of water and add 1,5 cups of sugar to a saucepan with berries.

4. Cook the compote for 5 minutes after boiling.

5. Let the compote brew for 40 minutes, then strain the drink through a coarse sieve.

The drink is ready. Pour the compote into glasses, add a mint leaf and three ice cubes to each.

Delicious facts

For cooking compote is suitable for both black and red currants. If the berries are very sour, you need to double the amount of sugar.

– When cooking compote for the winter, you can do without without sterilizationif you use these methods:

Method 1: pour the berries with boiling syrup 2 times with an exposure between fillings for 15 minutes and then roll up the jars.

Method 2: Boil the berries in syrup for 7 minutes, then pour the compote into jars and roll up.
