How to cook barley in a rice cooker

1. Rinse 1 glass of pearl barley under running water until all the flour dust is gone. Pour cold water so that it slightly covers the barley, and leave to swell for 4 hours, or overnight in the refrigerator.

2. Let the water drain, load the cereal into the bowl of the rice cooker, pour 3 glasses of water and cook in the “Cooking” mode under a closed lid for 1 hour (without soaking for 1,5-2 hours).

3. As soon as cooking is over, leave the barley in the heating mode for another 20 minutes. So the cereal will become crumbly. Season with salt to taste, stir and arrange on plates.

Barley in a rice cooker turns out to be softer and at the same time does not boil down into porridge due to the fact that the rice cooker has thick walls and evenly heats the cereal.

It is due to the thick walls that you can use the method of simmering barley: boil the barley for 20 minutes, and then turn on the heating mode for 2 hours without opening the lid. By the way, pearl barley will turn out to be more fragrant if you add a little oil at the beginning of cooking directly into the container of the rice cooker.
