How to cook rice in a double boiler

You will need – a glass of rice, a glass of water.

1. Sort the rice, if necessary, rinse until clear water in a sieve for 1 minute, let the water drain.

2. Put the rice in a bowl, pour boiling water over 1 centimeter.

3. Drain the water, put the rice in a steamer bowl designed for rice. If you don’t have a rice bowl, you can use a small ceramic or other refractory mold. It is very important here that the filling of the container for rice should not exceed half the volume of this container, since the rice will increase during cooking.

4. Smooth the rice in a container with a spoon so that the steam cooks the rice evenly, pour water in a ratio of 1: 1 – 1 glass of rice 1 glass of water.

5. Make sure that the water container of the steamer is full.

6. Switch on the steamer.

7. Cook rice in a double boiler for 40 minutes (1 cup) – 50 minutes (2 cups).

8. Without stirring the rice, sprinkle it with a spoonful of sunflower oil or butter, leave under the lid for 5 minutes.

 

Tip: after cooking, rice can be seasoned with butter, sprinkled with cheese and herbs. Alternatively, cook in a double boiler with green peas, then you get a complete healthy dish.

Rice and water proportions

In a container with rice, add 1 glass of rice to 1 glass of water. You can pour water to the top, at least 1 glass, into the water tank for steaming the rice. During cooking, make sure that the water in the tank does not run out – and add boiling water as needed.

Types of rice and time in a steamer

Cook rice in a double boiler a little longer, since the heating is less intense than on the stove. But due to the uniform heating, the rice is more crumbly, and the gentle saturation with moisture makes steamed rice the healthiest of all.

Long-grain – 25 minutes, leave for 5 minutes.

Medium grain – 25 minutes, leave for 5 minutes.

Kruglozerny – 30 minutes, leave for 10 minutes without opening the steamer.

Types of steamers and cooking times

Steamers of all manufacturers, whether it be Brown, Philips or Tefal, work according to the same principle: water boils in a special container, and steam goes up and processes the rice. The cooking time of the rice can be influenced by the level of the steamer (1, 2 or 3) and the amount of rice. Time for steamers from different manufacturers:

In a double boiler Tefal cooking time from the moment the water boils in the tank – 1 glass 45 minutes, 2 glasses 55 minutes. Most Tefal models have modes – select “Groats”. Put no more than 2/3 of a level into the rice bowl.

Brown FS 20, FS 3000, FS 5100: in the supplied rice container with the maximum water filling, in the lower basket for 40-50 minutes, at the upper level for 50-60 minutes. The FS 20 steamer has modes, choose “cereals”.

Phillips: Chef Program, in the supplied rice bowl on the lower level 35-40 minutes, on the average 40-45, in the upper basket 50-60 minutes.

Cook rice in a double boiler for 25 minutes after boiling water.
