When are antibiotics used? How long does it take for the antibiotic to work? When can you notice the first effects of antibiotic use? Is it possible to stop the antibiotic early? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.

When does the antibiotic start working?

Good day. I have a question about the action of the antibiotic. I have been taking an antibiotic (Taromentin) for four days because my GP has diagnosed me with angina (acute sore throat radiating to the ears, fever over 38 degrees, chills and enlarged lymph nodes). I take it as directed by my doctor, twice a day after meals. The doctor told me to take the entire treatment continuously, that is 7 days. However, I don’t see any improvement from it. My throat still hurts so badly, and I can’t swallow anything.

Could it be that this antibiotic has not yet started working? How long does it take to work the antibiotic Taromentin? Should I see the doctor again for the purpose antibiotic changes? Is it possible to just finish the course of the Taromentin antibiotic earlier and start taking another antibiotic? After three days, it seems to me that the antibiotic should be working. I am asking for advice on what I should do. I would like to recover as soon as possible, because I cannot afford to be ill for a long time. Thank you and best regards.

If your symptoms persist despite the antibiotic treatment, your doctor explains what to do

Madam, there may be several reasons for your state. The antibiotic may already be working, but the inflammation and irritation in the throat may still persist and cause pain. In this situation, the continued use of the antibiotic along with anti-inflammatory and analgesic drugs is advisable. Another reason may be a poorly selected antibiotic.

Unfortunately, nowadays, antibiotics are commonly prescribed by doctors in situations that do not require antibiotics. This mainly applies to viral infections, and as we know, antibiotics have antibacterial, not antiviral properties. In addition, patients during antibiotic therapy, as soon as they feel better, stop taking the antibiotic, shortening the time of therapy ordered by the doctor. Such situations are criminal because they cause the formation of strains of bacteria resistant to antibiotics.

It is possible that your disease was caused by a strain of bacteria that is resistant to the antibiotic you are taking. In this situation, it would be best if the attending physician ordered a culture along with an antibiogram and included an antibiotic to which bacteria are sensitive.

I suggest that you go back to your doctor to modify your treatment. It may be necessary to change the antibiotic, or it is enough to start the appropriate analgesic treatment.

Of course, you can go to the pharmacy right now and buy the appropriate specifics. Many patients praise topical medications, whether in the form of lozenges or in the form of a spray. Oral systemic drugs such as ibuprofen or paracetamol in the case of fever can also be used. Please remember about an adequate supply of fluids, which is very important in the case of any infection.

In the case of angina, appropriate treatment should not be delayed, because the disease may result in complications, including renal or heart failure, which are dangerous to health and life.

It is worth remembering that antibiotic therapy should be supported by probiotics. Lactibiane Lactichoc, helps to regain the balance of the intestinal microflora and supports the body while taking the antibiotic.
