Neutralizing antibodies produced by the body after infection with SARS-CoV-2 are present at a significant level 11 months after infection, researchers from a virology laboratory at a Rome infectious disease hospital said. The results of their work were published in the periodical «Viruses».

Researchers from the Spallanzani hospital, which was at the forefront of the fight against the coronavirus from the beginning, emphasized that the results of these studies are of great importance as they confirm the hypothesis that immunity may be longer than 8-10 monthswhich is currently discussed in specialist publications.
Researchers analyzed 2020 serum samples from COVID-2021 patients during their stay in hospital and during the post-recovery screening between February 763 and January 19.
Studies have shown that the level of neutralizing antibodies is higher in people over 60 years of age, and even greater in those who have been severely infected.
In 60 percent. in cases, the highest level of antibodies was recorded one or two months after infection; there was a slight decrease in 2-3 months after infection, followed by stabilization up to 11 months after infection.
Another observation of researchers from the Eternal City is a constant decrease in antibodies in 24 percent. people; however, it never reached the level of undetectability. In 15 percent of the respondents noticed a reverse tendency: an increase throughout the monitoring period.
