What are the symptoms of vasovagal syndrome? What is this condition? What are the other symptoms of vasovagal syndrome besides syncope? What is the treatment of taking medications? Will fainting disappear thanks to the introduced treatment? The question is answered by the drug. Katarzyna Darecka.
What are the symptoms of vasovagal syndrome?
Good morning, I would like to ask you how it manifests itself vasovagal syndrome. I recently heard such a preliminary diagnosis from a doctor, but I am not sure if it is really a good lead. Maybe I’ll start with the fact that I have a problem with frequent fainting. I ignored it a bit at first, because these were relatively rare situations, and I always made excuses for them. Recently, however, my husband had already become angry with me and sent me to the doctor. The doctor, on the other hand, stated that it could be a vasovagal syndrome.
To me, it sounds very scary and that’s why I would like to try to answer for myself whether this applies to me. Are there any other than fainting symptoms of vasovagal syndrome? Because I also feel good and I have not noticed that anything is happening to my body. I am only supposed to know the full diagnosis after the upright examination, which is to finally confirm whether my fainting is really a vasovagal syndrome. If so, will I be taking any medications? What it looks like treatment of vasovagal syndrome? And is it effective enough to stop me passing out?
The doctor explains the symptoms of vasovagal syndrome
Syncope occurs in vasovagal syndrome as a result of a temporary decrease in blood flow to the brain by the baroreceptor reflex. Vasovagal syndrome is the most common cause of syncope and accounts for 35-70% of syncope, depending on the age group. Acute vasovagal reactions leading to fainting or pre-syncope. Only on the basis of the result of the upright test vasovagal syndrome can be diagnosed. In this case, syncope is caused by a reduction in systemic pressure in the body’s arteries, i.e. hypotension. Hypotension may be caused by bradycardia (heart rate below 60 beats per minute), vasodilation, or both.
Usually, patients with vasovagal syncope are young and generally healthy. In younger patients, fainting is usually preceded by symptoms such as nausea, paleness and sweating. You may also experience a feeling of warmth or cold, rapid heartbeat, blurry vision, weakness after fainting. Vasovagal syncope most often occurs while sitting or standing and lasts about 1-2 minutes.
Bradycardia is caused by increased activation of the parasympathetic nervous system. Also, the weakening of the influence of the sympathetic system on the venous vessels, causing their relaxation. In addition to the upright test, it may also be necessary to visit a cardiologist and perform an EKG or Holtrer-EKG, i.e. a 24-hour record of the heart’s electrical activity. There should be no underlying * heart disease.
The upright or tilt test assesses the reflex of arterial baroreceptors. It measures blood pressure, heart rate and the heart’s electrical activity.
