The fifth episode of “Health in conversation” has been released January 13, 2022 J ego’s guest was Bartosz Poliński, President of the Alivia Oncology Foundation.

The Alivia Oncology Foundation educates and represents cancer patients in the public debate. Its mission is to help people with cancer be a courageous patient who is proactive in finding the best treatments, medical staff and treatment centers available. At each stage, Alivia supports patients by making them aware and representing them, and provides practical tools to fight the disease.

In the era of the pandemic, the Alivia Oncology Foundation launched a campaign Oncotaxybecause patients had problems reaching medical centers. So far, more than 10 courses have been carried out, during which cancer patients have been provided with safe and free transport to treatment centers.

– Paradoxically, the pandemic actually made a technological leap, because what seemed to be technologically simple to implement in the form of, for example, teleconsultation, actually happened on a massive scale. The perception of this by patients is rather positive, although it is also necessary to remember to maintain a certain balance and give patients, who want and feel that there is a need, the opportunity to visit the hospital directly – points out the President of the Alivia Oncology Foundation in the podcast.

Bartosz Poliński emphasizes that the collision of Polish oncology with COVID-19 was very painful, especially since it was in a poor state even before the pandemic. Organizing a hospital visit that is safe and appropriate for the patient is still a problem in Polish hospitals, which may be solved by teleconsultation in some cases.

It is unacceptable nowadays that patients are often arranged at the same time. There is a waiting room at the oncology clinic where all patients are scheduled for the same hour, waiting politely until they are called. They often wait 3 hours, 4 hours or even longer – adds the President of the Foundation.
