how interior color affects the psyche
It will relieve stress and anxiety, give harmony in the soul and a good mood.
Our behavior and attitude are shaped by the people with whom we communicate, the news that we read, the activities to which we devote our work or free time. The space around us plays a special role in the perception of the world. Wherever we are, we feel the influence of the interior, its details and especially its color scheme. According to scientific data, a person receives about 80% of information through sight, and the remaining 20% through other senses.
Bad mood? Repaint the walls!
“Each color has its own specific wave, it is responsible for the production of one or another neurotransmitter, which, depending on the state of the person, will enhance or suppress certain feelings – anxiety, relaxation, and so on,” explains neurologist, neuropathologist Arthur Sharapov.
Anna Sukhova, psychologist, psychodiagnostician, author of the “Your Psychologist” project and founder of the “Psychology for Life” Club, is convinced that color plays an important role in our life:
“We perceive it unconsciously, and together with it – the feelings, emotions, moods that this color activates in us. That is, if we use a large number of colors in the interior, we will intuitively adjust to its rules. “
It is for this reason that a simple change in the color of the walls in an apartment or in a house can positively affect our general state of mind and tune in to the right wave. Sometimes even rearranging furniture works wonders. Changing the color of the walls is a change in psychological anchors. For example, we can hear a melody and remember how we loved to this song – in this case, the auditory anchor works. And the same with color: with one we can experience negativity at home, but replacing it with another, we get a new range of feelings.
Such changes in the environment are necessary, especially if a person is often exposed to stress and various negative factors.
“We have an epidemic of anxiety in Russia – and this is not a question of age or social status. Because of this problem, many economic and social upheavals may occur in the future, ”said Artur Sharapov. – The constant feeling of anxiety is largely associated with the endless flow of information, with the rapid development of technology and the increase in the speed of life.
Similar conclusions were reached by researchers at the Dutch AkzoNobel International Center for Aesthetics, which annually conduct extensive analysis of research in the field of society, economics, color and design. Having studied the main trends of the outgoing year, the experts concluded that in the era of high technologies and a continuous flow of information, our dominant emotional state is uncertainty and anxiety.
Based on these results, the International Center for Aesthetics announced Smoky Pink, or Woody Allusion, as the main color of the year, a soft, muted color that conveys the warmth of natural wood. According to experts, this color not only accurately reflects the mood of the current moment, but also helps to find harmony and restore strength.
Psychologists rate smoky pink as a complex, muted color that gives the feeling of serene peace we find in our beloved home.
“It reflects the needs of people of a sufficiently high cultural level and is preferred more often by middle-aged people, representatives of intellectual labor with a finely organized nervous system,” Oksana Dubrovskaya believes. – Nevertheless, it is this color that is able to bring clarity and balance to the state of a person at an unconscious level.
According to psychologist Anna Sukhova, smoky pink is suitable for people experiencing increased anxiety. It is best used in the interior decoration of the bedroom, living room and nursery. In the bathroom – the same, but in combination with bright and rich shades, for example, Marsala.
It is important that a person really feel comfortable and cozy in the space that surrounds him, therefore, the competent choice of color is the task of professionals in the field of color and design.
That is why, in addition to the Woody Allusion, experts from the AkzoNobel International Center for Aesthetics have developed four color collections: Hospitable Home, Open Home, Cozy Home and Happy Home. Each collection has a unique color palette that reflects the idea of the interior. Thus, with the help of color, you can create an environment that best suits psychotypes and mood.
“We understand how important color is to everyday life,” comments Helen van Gent. “Painted walls not only transform the space, but also help us feel uplifted, wherever we are – at home, at work or on vacation.”
