How does the heart work?

A little anatomy …

The heart is the first organs to develop in humans (3 weeks after conception). The size of a fist, it ensures the blood circulation throughout the body and acts as a real motor: 8 liters of blood pass through the heart every day!

If the blood passes through the heart, it is to load in oxygen near the lung. the lung oxygenates the blood; charge to the heart to then distribute it to all the organs …

Located between the lungs, the heart benefits from the strong protection of the rib cage (ribs, sternum and spine). It has the shape of an inverted pyramid, the top of which points to the left of the thorax. We can thus feel the beats of the heart below the left nipple, between two ribs.

A hollow organ, the heart is above all a powerful muscle: the myocardium. This muscle is protected by two membranes: theepicardium covers it, while theendocarde lines its cavities.

The heart is vascularized by coronary arteries right and left. It is the obstruction of these arteries that is the cause of myocardial infarction.
