How does a blood donation work?
Donating blood is not only a strong act but also a simple process. From reception at the collection point to the A + break which allows you to hydrate and eat under the supervision of the French Blood Establishment (EFS), the donor’s journey can be broken down into just 4 steps. Discover the process of donating blood step by step!

Reception at the collection point

Each year, nearly two million people come to the collection points of the French Blood Establishment (EFS). There are more than 120 donation houses spread across the country, to which are added 40.000 mobile collections organized each year in public places, companies, universities, etc.

Whether the collection point is fixed or mobile, you are greeted on site by EFS staff or a volunteer. You fill out a questionnaire about your state of health and your lifestyle requiring simple answers (Yes / No / Don’t know). Then, the (a) secretary is responsible for registering your file. .. Any information communicated will not be disclosed. The sole purpose of the questionnaire is to prepare for the next step: the pre-donation interview with a healthcare professional.

Find your collection point using the EFS geolocation module: dondesang.efs.sante.fr/trouver-une-collecte.

You can also download the “Blood donation” application on a smartphone or tablet.
