1/ 6 Types of stroke

There are two main types of stroke: ischemic and hemorrhagic. An ischemic stroke occurs when a blood vessel becomes blocked or completely blocked. On the other hand, we speak of a hemorrhagic stroke when there is a hemorrhage to the brain as a result of a vessel rupture.

2/ 6 Symptoms of ischemic stroke

Different types of stroke have slightly different symptoms. Ischemic stroke carries with it: paresis or paralysis, decreased sensation, difficulty speaking, difficulty remembering, trouble swallowing, delirium, disturbance of consciousness. Often times, physical symptoms only affect one side of the body.

3/ 6 Symptoms of hemorrhagic stroke

A hemorrhagic stroke is primarily characterized by pain. Depending on the location of the stroke, it can appear in the frontal, parietal, temporal, or occipital lobe. Often there are additional symptoms: sensory disturbances, paresis and amblyopia (may appear in the form of visual field limitation).

4/6 Test F.A.S.T.

If you notice the above symptoms in someone around you, run a quick test developed by American doctors. The FAST text consists of checking four things: F for face – ask to smile, if one corner of the mouth is drooping, it may be a sign of a stroke; And for arms, ask to raise your hands up, if one arm is lower, it may be a sign of a stroke; S for speech, or speech – say the sentence and ask for it to be repeated exactly, if the examined person has difficulty remembering it, or distorts the words and speaks indistinctly, it may be a sign of a stroke; T is for time – if ANY of the above symptoms are present in a person suspected of having a stroke, call an ambulance immediately. Timing of treatment is critical to your health in the event of a stroke.

5/ 6 First aid for stroke

If you suspect a loved one has a stroke, you should call an ambulance right away. Then we place the patient in the recovery position. NOTE: make sure the ambulance takes the patient to a facility that has a CT scanner and a vascular surgery unit.

6/ 6 Prevention

The risk of a hemorrhagic stroke is very high in people with hypertension. In turn, ischemic stroke is usually the result of atherosclerosis, arrhythmias, and coagulation disorders. Treat the conditions listed above to minimize the chance of having a stroke.
