How can you postpone the oncoming period? Are the contraceptive pill the only way to delay my period? Can diet or herbs also prove effective? The question is answered by the drug. Paweł Żmuda-Trzebiatowski.

How can the start of the period be delayed?

good morning, I would like to ask you how to move the period? I am 24 years old and have had regular intercourse for several years. I used birth control pills for a while and then I had no problem with how to shift my period with the contraceptive pills. Currently, I no longer use contraception, but my period is at a very bad time when I am away and traveling by plane. I want to postpone my period because it is accompanied by quite a lot of pain that will bother me.

In addition to the pills, is there any a way to shift your menstrual period? Can the period be moved with herbs or diet? I’ve heard that hot baths can speed up my period, but I don’t know if that’s true. Maybe there are some other home remedies to move the period. My only concern is to move my period a few days ahead, so that at least the first days of my period will be when I’m at home.

Of course, if there is no way out, I will manage somehow, but maybe I’ll find out how to move the tablet-free period. However, I would not like to hurt myself, because I do not trust in the ways of postponing the period with alcohol or accelerating the period with aspirin – I do not want to hurt myself. I will be very thankful for the answer.

The doctor explains whether it is possible to postpone the period without the use of contraceptive pills

Ladies and Gentlemen, the easiest and safest method to postpone the menstrual period is use of hormonal contraception. When using this type of contraceptive in the form of tablets, you do not need to take breaks between packages, which prevents the onset of menstruation. Of course, it is not recommended to use tablets for a long time without taking breaks, although in the case of a trip or vacation, this form of use is possible and effective.

You mentioned home remedies for postponing the period. Please be advised that there are no home methods of proven effectiveness. Neither herbs nor diet can postpone the period, what is worse, such methods can be harmful to your health. Especially when herbs of unknown origin are used. There have been cases of liver failure after using various Chinese herbal mixtures. Alcohol and aspirin will also not help and can be harmful at the same time.

I would advise you to keep a distance from any information found on the internet, especially those that praise herbs and other natural methods. Most often, these are advice with no scientific backing to encourage the purchase of a specific natural product.

In the case of severe abdominal pain during menstruation, it is worth using diastolic and analgesic drugs, please also remember about adequate hydration.

I believe that it will be most beneficial for you if you go to the gynecologist and consider using hormonal contraception. The doctor will select the appropriate medications for you, taking into account your health condition and possible chronic diseases. Of course, when you come back from your trip, you can stop taking the tablets.

If, after discontinuing hormonal contraception, your period does not appear on time, please do not stress and wait patiently. Fluctuations in sex hormone levels can disrupt the regularity of menstrual bleeding. It is always best to discuss any concerns about your menstrual cycle with your gynecologist.
