How do I get rid of the excess? Seven questions for a nutritionist

5. Is it true that you need to drink at least two liters of water every day?

We are all different, so there can be no single universal norm for the amount of fluid consumed. The most important thing in drinking water is regularity. If you drink a glass of water at room temperature in the morning on an empty stomach, you thus replenish the loss of fluid overnight (during breathing, it evaporates from the body). And then you need to drink water regularly throughout the day. Place a bottle or glass of water on your work table and take a few sips every 15–20–30 minutes (one or five, whatever you want). You won’t drink more than your body needs. And so on until 18:00. But after this time, drink only if you are thirsty. If you want to drink – drink, if you don’t want – don’t.

It is important to remember that we really need water. The condition of the skin, mucous membranes, etc. depends on it. We are talking about pure water, and not about drinks such as tea or coffee. The latter do not saturate the body with water, but, on the contrary, remove it.

6. Is it true that a protein diet is bad for the body?

I have a negative attitude to this diet. However, I do not like the very concept of “diet”. Because it implies some kind of situational event, that is, a person observes food restrictions for a short time. But then the diet ends – and the period of return of the lost kilograms begins (often in an increased amount).

Therefore, the stage of nutrition with a predominance of proteins in the diet is permissible no more than two to three days. Because of the increased protein load, there are a lot of very unpleasant side effects.

7. What to do if over the years the extra pounds began to settle on the waist faster, but go away even with serious efforts much more slowly?

Over the years, the rate of metabolic processes really decreases. There are people whose metabolism is initially slowed down. And this, by the way, is not bad at all: it has been noticed that long-livers, that is, people who have stepped over the XNUMX-year mark, have a slowed down metabolism. For example, they have a decreased thyroid function. And the slowdown of all metabolic processes with age is a normal physiological process. This means that to get rid of the extra pounds you have gained, you need to put in more effort.
