Of the European countries, sunny Italy was hit hardest by the coronavirus. Local doctors do not sleep at night and work tirelessly.
More than 28 thousand people in Italy are infected with coronavirus infection. Doctors work around the clock and sometimes cannot allocate even a few minutes to rest. Enrico Galletti, an employee of the Corriere della Sera, learned about the difficult everyday life of Italian doctors. Nurse Paolo Miranda, who has been working in the intensive care unit of the hospital in Cremona for nine years, said:
“The sick are brought to us in a terrible state. It’s just crazy to tell the young that this trouble will not touch them, because they are here too. The intensive care unit is overcrowded. “
Paolo starts work early in the morning and finishes late at night. When he goes home, he just wants to be silent. And even to turn on the radio in the car, there is no longer any strength. His colleagues are also terribly tired.
“Six in the morning. In a hospital in Cremona, women and men spent an entire night at work without sleep. Among them, one nurse fell exhausted after a shift. She is still wearing a mask and a robe, and has not taken off her gloves. She wearily lowered her head to the table and closed her eyes for five minutes after long hours of incessant work in a frantic rhythm. Nothing more is known about her, except for one thing: tomorrow she will be on the front line again, ”journalist Enrico Galletti told the story of the iconic photo.
A photo of a sleeping nurse instantly flew across the web. In this way, the doctor who made the memorable shot wanted to thank her and thank her for her diligence. Later, the hospital in Cremona, where the employees of Corriere della Sera turned, reported that the photo was not staged and that such a situation really happened.
The hardest thing for doctors is when they need to call patients’ relatives and tell the sad news: “Not all calls are happy. There are those who die right in the clothes in which they are brought. But this is not always the case. “
Galetti writes that some doctors cannot sleep until late at night and everyone thinks about tomorrow and how else to help patients. “You turn around in bed and you see that your wife is not asleep either. The alarm rings, it’s half past six in the morning. May this day be good, ”reflects Paolo Miranda. Both he and his colleagues hope that soon the situation with the coronavirus will change for the better in the country and the world.
