How and where to store quince correctly?
The main reasons for the rapid decay of quince can be high humidity and too warm storage conditions. Subject to all the rules, these fruits can be stored for months without violating either taste or juiciness. A small amount of fruit can be placed in the refrigerator. If there are a lot of quince, then you will have to try to find the best suitable place and create special storage conditions.
The nuances of storing quince at home:
- if there are a lot of quince, then it is better to store it in a cellar or basement (to maintain freshness, these fruits need cool conditions, it is difficult to create them in an apartment for a large number of fruits);
- a large amount of quince should be stored in boxes with partitions so that the fruits do not touch each other (you can sprinkle the fruits with sand or wrap each of them with paper);
- pour the sand, if necessary, with quince, you can replace it with sawdust or dry grass;
- quince can be stored near apples (fruits do not have any effect on each other);
- pears can speed up the process of ripening and decay of quince, therefore, it is not recommended to keep these fruits nearby in any case;
- it is better to preserve the freshness and juiciness of quince using paper or foil (each fruit is wrapped separately);
- you can store quince in polyethylene, but it is better to use plastic wrap instead of plastic bags (to prevent air accumulation and condensation);
- you can increase the shelf life of quince if you purchase unripe fruits in advance (but you cannot store such fruits in the refrigerator, you can place them in the cold only after they are fully ripe);
- too small, damaged or bruised fruits should not be stored (it is better to cook compote, jam or quickly eat them in other forms);
- quince can be frozen not only fresh, but also after heat treatments (for example, the fruits can be boiled first, then chopped with a blender and frozen in the form of mashed potatoes);
- cut quince should be stored only in the refrigerator (like apples, quince quickly winds up, so you can wrap it with cling film);
- ripe quince is best stored exclusively in a dark place;
- at room temperature, ripe quince should be stored for no longer than two weeks (you cannot place fruits in the sun);
- drying and drying are considered additional ways of storing quince (fruits are dried in the oven for several hours at a temperature of about 50 degrees, the fruits are preliminarily cut into pieces and the cores removed);
- if it is not possible to place the quince in a refrigerator or cellar, then in room conditions the fruits must be stored in dark places, the fruits are previously placed in paper bags);
- you can treat the quince with melted wax or rub it with vegetable oil (this technique will help keep the skin of the fruit from drying out).

The refrigerator is considered an ideal place for storing quince at home. In the fruit compartment, the temperature regime fully meets the requirements of this category of fruits. The optimal storage temperature for quince is considered to be from 0 to +4 degrees. In such conditions, fruits are able to maintain their juiciness and remain fresh for 2 months.
If you use additional funds, then the shelf life of quince in the refrigerator will increase to 4 months. In this case, you will need to comply with all the rules exactly with the prescriptions.
The ratio of temperature and shelf life of quince:
- from 0 to +1 degrees – 4 months;
- from 0 to +4 degrees – 2 months;
- from +4 to +8 degrees – 1 month;
- above +8 degrees and at room temperature – no more than 1 month (maximum 3 weeks).
In the freezer, quince can be stored for longer than 7-9 months, and after exposure to low temperatures, its taste properties become more saturated… Before placing in the freezer, the fruits must be cut, the seeds and rind must be removed, and the pulp must be cut into small pieces. Repeated freezing of fruits should be completely excluded.
