Dill storage

In a glass of water at room temperature

Shelf life: 3-5 days

To keep a little fresh dill for a short period, you just need to fill the container with water, put greens there and cover it tightly with a plastic bag. In this case, the dill can be stored outside the refrigerator by placing it in a dark place.

Storage of dried dill

Shelf life: from 1 year

Dried dill can be used as a seasoning for various dishes, but you should not mix it with other spices, so as not to change the aroma and color of the herbs:

  1. To dry, rinse the greens in a container with water;
  2. Spread out on a baking sheet and dry at 50 degrees Celsius;
  3. Pack the dried dill in glass or porcelain jars and cover tightly;
  4. You can store it both in the refrigerator and in a dry, dark place.

Preparing for storage

In order for dill to retain its beneficial properties for a long period when stored in the refrigerator, you need to know how to properly prepare it:

  1. It is better not to wash the greens before long-term storage in the refrigerator – this way they will be stored much longer. If the dill is too dirty, then you can wipe it with a dry cloth;
  2. If you really want to clean the dill from dirt, then soak it in a bowl, and not under running water from the tap, and then dry it on a dry cloth. In general, dirt can be washed off immediately before use after storage;
  3. Get rid of yellowed leaves.

In plastic containers

Shelf life: 7 days

There are many special containers from various companies for storing delicate vegetables:

  1. Go through fresh dill, cut off the yellow branches;
  2. Rinse the herbs under a low pressure of tap water or in a deep bowl;
  3. Dry on a dry towel (preferably paper);
  4. Place in a container and place in the refrigerator on the lower shelf for storage.

In a jar of water

Shelf life: 1-2 weeks

This storage method also does not guarantee a long shelf life for dill. Just before placing in the refrigerator, place a bunch of greens in a small glass jar of water and cover it tightly with a plastic bag. Do not forget to change the water every day or two.

In glass jars or plastic bag

Shelf life: 1-2 months

  1. Without first washing the dill greens, place a bunch of plants in each liter glass jar (plastic bag);
  2. Cover the container tightly with a plastic lid. If stored in a bag, inflate it so that the dill breathes, and tie it tightly;
  3. Store in the refrigerator on the lowest level.

In such conditions, dill remains fragrant and green, almost all of its vitamins and useful properties are preserved.

With an onion

Shelf life: 1-2 months

  1. Go over the greens, do not wash them;
  2. Put the herbs in a plastic bag;
  3. Add the onion, cut into quarters;
  4. Tie the bag, make holes in it and place in the refrigerator;
  5. Replace the old onion with a new one every 5 days.

Freezer storage

Shelf life: 6-12 months

The best way for practically the longest storage of dill is freezing, and this storage method allows the greens to retain their beneficial properties to the maximum:

  1. Rinse the herbs in a container with water;
  2. Get rid of the yellow twigs and cut off the roots;
  3. Fold the dill into a bunch and wrap with foil or cling film;
  4. Place in the freezer.
