How to clean a grate on a cast iron stove

The method of cleaning depends on the material for making the gratings. They may be:

  • cast iron;
  • steel;
  • enameled.

So, cast iron gratings are most susceptible to scratching. Therefore, the method of cleaning them must be gentle.

It is not recommended to use steel wool, hard brushes or aggressive detergents. It is not advisable to wash cast iron grates in the dishwasher. Steam can be used to remove carbon deposits and stubborn stains. For this, a conventional steam generator is used. If not, the wire shelf can be placed on a baking sheet with water and sent to the oven.

Filament copes well with pollution. If it is possible to make a fire on the street, then a grate should be held over the fire. All carbon deposits will fall off in 2-3 minutes. Indoors, you can also heat up the grate by holding it over a working burner. However, you should turn on the hood and open the windows, as the smell will be pungent.

How to clean the grate at the stove: steel and enamel products

Steel and enamelled grates are much easier to clean. For this, you can use a variety of folk remedies. For example:

  • soda;
  • mustard powder;
  • soda with ammonia (3: 1);
  • washing powder with ammonia (3: 1);
  • mustard powder with vinegar and dishwashing detergent (3: 3: 1).

Dilute any of the products a little with hot water until a mushy state is formed.

Apply the resulting mixture to the wire rack and leave for 30–40 minutes. After the time has elapsed, rinse the product under running water. If necessary, clean the grate with an additional steel wool. If you are using a recipe that contains ammonia, you can do without soaking. Simply apply the product to the wire rack, rub a little with a washcloth and rinse with water.
