Household appliances of the future: ideas
How do we know which household appliances will “settle” in our homes in ten years? Clairvoyance will not help in this matter. But design contests will help!
Pepper Gun
Chinese designer Zhu Fei suggests sprinkling dishes not from a banal porcelain container with holes, but using a compressed air revolver. The object was shortlisted for the Dining in 2015 competition – and deservedly so! Firstly, it is beautiful, and secondly, it is easy to use. Thirdly, if disagreements arise between fellow guests, it can be used for self-defense!
Solar Pan
The project of French student Laura Pandey took second place in the Electrolux Design Lab competition. The food tray fits into the base with an induction heater that is powered by miniature solar panels built into the lid.
Refrigerator stove
All refrigerators generate heat during operation. Greener Gadgets contestant Haejin Kim suggests using it to warm up food. The burner is the evaporator moved from the rear wall of the device to the upper one.
Plate-frying pan
Israeli designers Amy Drakh and Dov Genchrov are plotting a revolution in the art of serving. The patterns made of gold leaf or metal foil on a plate are more than just a decoration: an electric current flows through them. Food in such dishes does not cool down for hours. The project was submitted to the Dining in 2015 competition hosted by designboom.com at MACEF, but did not receive a prize. Perhaps the judges were embarrassed by the question: will the table be decorated with wires reaching the outlet?
Compost generator
So, according to Thai student Tanat Tengamnoy, the trash can of the future should look like. The owners put food waste into the device, the bacteria process it into compost. The device maintains the ideal temperature and humidity for microorganisms by itself. Everyone is happy. One question – what to do with all this compost in a city apartment? The project reached the final of the Electrolux Design Lab competition.
BBQ pan attached to the exhaust pipe
It took seven Iranian designers to combine the mental efforts of seven Iranian designers to create this striking object! The pan is heated by exhaust gases – according to the authors, the meat is reliably isolated from them. The project was shortlisted for the Dining in 2015 competition.
The editors would like to thank Electrolux for their help in preparing the material.
