The hotel is like a home – a good tradition and the freshest trend. We invite you to try on your own walls 12 brilliant ideas “stolen” by us from hotel rooms.

Hotel interiors

Idea 2: bathroom in the garden

Idea 1: low partition between bathroom and bedroomA bedroom combined with a bathroom is a spectacular but impractical solution. It is more reasonable to separate them with a partition that does not reach the ceiling, as in the Austrian Mavida Balance Hotel & Spa. Unfortunately, this option is only suitable for country houses: in apartment buildings, the combination of living space with a bathroom, alas, unlawfully.

Idea 2: bathroom in the gardenTaking a bath, enjoying the sun, greenery and fresh air is a legitimate privilege for owners of country houses. And for this it is not necessary to wash on the lawn, in front of the amazed neighbors! You can learn from the experience of Antonio Citterio – when designing the Bvlgari hotel in Bali, he achieved a good compromise between openness and privacy. The glazed bathroom doors open onto a garden enclosed by a wild stone wall. In fine weather, you can open the doors and let the summer breeze into the room.

Idea 3: burning fireplace on the TV screen

Idea 4: Do Not Disturb sign

Idea 5: a bed combined with a desk

Idea 3: burning fireplace on the TV screenFireplace – a recognized symbol of home comfort. And even if you cannot afford that luxury, there is a way out. The owners of the German hotel chain Motel One have clearly proved that relaxation is facilitated not only by a real fire, but also by a flame captured on video. Insert the disc into your DVD player, and the TV in the lobby or living room turns into a virtual hearth! Of course, such a deception will not work in a classic interior, but in a modern one it looks quite organic. Large selection of disks with shooting fire – in the online store amazon.com (search for them by the keywords “ambient fire”).

Idea 4: Do Not Disturb signThis simple household item is also useful at home: it can prevent many family quarrels. From time to time, everyone wants to be alone – and this is not a reason for offense. You can come up with other signals: for example, “do not enter without a gift”, “went into myself, I will not be back soon” – and hang them on the front door before the arrival of guests.

Idea 5: a bed combined with a deskFurniture pieces that combine several functions are the perfect choice for a small room. Follow the example of Venezuelan-based designer Masa for this Fox suite. The bed is combined with a writing desk, which can be used as a coffee and coffee table. Similar hybrids can be purchased at IKEA or ordered according to your sketch from the company AM Design.

Idea 6: glass wall between bedroom and bathroom

Idea 7: murals moving from wall to ceiling

Idea 6: glass wall between bedroom and bathroomTo provide natural light to your bathroom, replace the wall with a glass partition. And to be able to retire during water procedures, duplicate the glass with curtains or blinds, as in the Faena Hotel & Universe. Another option is to install a partition made of so-called Smart-glass – with a variable level of transparency.

Idea 7: murals moving from wall to ceilingThis is one of the most effective decorating techniques. If you have low ceilings – use it! Decorate the room giant drawingsthat do not seem to fit on the wall and “splash” on the ceiling, as in this room at the Fox hotel in Copenhagen.

Idea 8: spinning TV at the foot of the bed

Idea 9: cinema on the ceiling

Idea 10: a bed suspended from the ceiling

Idea 8: spinning TV at the foot of the bedWatching TV while lying in bed or sitting in a chair? The choice is yours. For a studio apartment or a large bedroom, the solution used in this “suite” of the Moscow Pokrovka Suite hotel is perfect. The TV, built into the frosted glass partition, pivots on its axis. It is equally convenient to look at both from the bed and from the living area.

Idea 9: cinema on the ceilingDo you want to see something pleasant every morning when you wake up? How about a shot from your favorite movie on the ceiling? Take an example from Jean Nouvel, who decorated the rooms of the Swiss hotel The Hotel with frames from the iconic tapes of Fellini, Bunuel, Wenders, etc. High-resolution images can be ordered from the Eastnews photo bank, large-format print – maximuc.ru. In order for the ceiling to look good in the evening, you will have to abandon the chandelier and install spotlights directed upwards.

Idea 10: a bed suspended from the ceilingIf your bedroom is small, you can create the illusion of spaciousness by replacing a regular bed with a bed without legs suspended from the ceiling. Just as it was done in the New Majestic hotel in Singapore, here the “floating in the air” bed is also illuminated from below. This is a great way to visually “unload” a cramped room.

Idea 11: children’s rooms designed by children

Idea 12: covering the top of the walls with mirrors

Idea 11: children’s rooms designed by childrenEnergy in adolescents is in full swing, but how to channel it into a peaceful channel? Let them design their own bedrooms. Take an example from hoteliers, who entrusted the decoration of rooms to geeks not burdened with knowledge in decorating. The Fox Hotel in Copenhagen has been given to aspiring designers: the result is evident!

Idea 12: covering the top of the walls with mirrorsThere is no need to explain to anyone that mirrors visually expand the space. However, most people are uncomfortable with being face to face with their own reflection all the time. (Citizens suffering from a severe form of narcissism are not counted!) In addition, the mirror mercilessly doubles not only the area of the room, but also the number of things scattered around it in artistic disorder. Take on the experience of designer David Collins, author of the London Hotel in New York: he mirrors only the top of the walls, so that neither the mess in the room nor its inhabitants are reflected in them. At the same time, the illusion of spaciousness remains.

For some, the hotel is a home, for others – someone else’s territory. We gave our word to both parties!

Once my husband and I ended up at the hotel by accident and did not regret it. It was in London. We moved from one apartment to another. In the middle of the narrow street there was already a truck filled with our belongings. And then it turned out that the owner of the apartment we were to move into had simply disappeared. His phone did not answer, and the confused real estate agent said he had no idea how to help us. I stood next to a furious truck driver who did not know where to go and couldn’t even cry out of despair. But my husband, without losing his composure, booked a room at The Dorchester and said: “Big deal! We’ll spend the night at the hotel, we’ll drink champagne! ” Indeed, everything worked out, the next day we found a wonderful apartment in which we lived for a year and a half. But unexpectedly for ourselves, we spent an amazing romantic evening in one of the best hotels in the world!

The first time I came to Italy was in 1994. My friends and I arrived in Rimini, dropped our things at the hotel and went to the city for exploration. In order not to get lost, I specially remembered the name of the hotel. The sign read Albergo ***. Okay, I thought, everything is clear, hotel Albergo. Looked at the name of the street – Traffico a senso unico – and went for a walk. Of course we are lost. Somehow, with the help of a phrasebook, they began to ask local residents: “Where is the Albergo hotel here?” We were pointed to the nearest building. We look – for sure, Albergo! And our street is Traffico a senso unico. But the hotel is definitely not ours. And most importantly, wherever you turn, there is a sign Traffico a senso unico on every street, and on every hotel there is an Albergo. We decided that we were going crazy … In the end, it turned out that Traffico a senso unico means one-way traffic, and Albergo means a hotel. The entire resort of Rimini was strewn with hotels bearing the Albergo sign. In general, we wandered around the resort for a whole week, slept on the beach … Just kidding. To be honest, it’s just that at some point we quite by accident, ourselves not understanding how, ended up near the door of our Albergo.

Hotel design once scared me a lot. Thank God that my husband and I happened to be in this famous Dubai hotel by chance, in the format of an excursion. The abundance of white “Mercedes” at the entrance and sheikh-like personalities did not bother us at all: on the contrary, we were looking forward to meeting the promised “Arab luxury”. It always seemed to me that this concept included antique carpets, carved panels, dusty handmade cement tiles – and all that in mosaic-bright colors. However, already at the entrance, burial compositions of fresh flowers, modern Chinese carpets painted with glowing abstractions, an atrium stretching into infinite heights with inflated celluloid balconies covered with gold leaf were waiting for us. “We could have accommodated the Statue of Liberty here,” a local PR woman boasted. “Well, they are already trying on the Statue of Liberty for themselves,” we thought gloomily. We were taken to the 50th floor on a bullet lift, where, holding onto the walls so as not to have the slightest chance to look deep into the “well” (at that moment we were approximately at the level of the head of the Statue of Liberty, if they had shoved it there), we went to the royal apartments. The tinted glass of the room, covering an area of almost 800 square meters, created a gloomy atmosphere in the kitsch marble-silk space. While the sun was shining outside and warm green waves were beating against the shore, the apartment was dominated by central air conditioning and a halogen-sweetened twilight. My husband felt bad. He practically sat down on the carpet in the middle of one of the bedrooms and held on to it with his hands, trying to persuade himself that he had some kind of ground under his feet. The PR woman pressed a hidden button, and the Disneyland bed, standing among the gilded columns, began to slowly rotate around its axis. Downstairs was asked to go down on a panoramic elevator, and we were already so bad and do not care that we agreed. At the speed of light, a glass box was falling into the ocean with indifferent Indian people who still had time to point their fingers at something. We did not leave there – we fled from there. And in the evening we got drunk from stress.

In the fall, our whole family – me, my husband Alexei and my little daughter Aurora – were vacationing in the Maldives. Specially time was chosen to celebrate Aleksey’s birthday there. To be honest, I didn’t plan anything special – I thought we’ll go to some exotic restaurant in the evening, maybe we’ll get a bottle of champagne and a basket of fruits as a gift from the hotel … But the day before the manager came up to me and said in a conspiratorial tone: “Nothing for tomorrow appoint “. I decided it was about Halloween, which is celebrated on October 31st. But the next day a nanny knocked on our door (whom we had not ordered) and firmly said that she was ordered to sit with little Aurora. Alexei and I were put in a boat and taken to a secluded island, where a gorgeous table had already been laid. We drank champagne, ate something very tasty and exotic … And when it got dark, an amazing show with lit torches began. And only for the two of us! My husband and I ourselves work in show business, but we appreciated the spectacle – it was so spectacular. Alexey then said that it was one of the best birthdays in his life. “Did you come up with all this yourself?” – the girlfriends were trying to find out after our return to Moscow. They just couldn’t believe it was really a gift from the hotel.

Once I was staying in a luxury hotel in Switzerland. Believe me, it was the highest class – in my opinion, not even five, but six stars. I was escorted to a luxurious room, telling me on the way that the history of the hotel goes back more than one hundred and fifty years. And all these years, the staff day and night only thinks about how to satisfy any whims of their sophisticated customers. I listened to all this with due respect. I unpacked my things and took out my laptop. But what was my surprise when I found out that there is no Wi-Fi in my exclusive room with antique furniture. I had to call the reception. “Don’t worry, madam! – the administrator answered cheerfully. “Please go down to the first floor and use our excellent computers.” Of course, I was indignant that in order to go online and send a letter home, I had to go somewhere else. But when I entered the room, I almost fainted: there were units that could be safely given to the museum of computer technology. Of course, the “oldies” groaned, but somehow they worked … “That’s interesting,” I thought later. – Do the owners of the hotels do not understand that the golden mixers are, perhaps, important for some of the guests. But the technology must be up to date. ” And here’s another question that torments me: why in some hotels Niagara Falls is pouring from the shower, which literally knocks you off your feet, while in others you have to catch every drop to wash yourself. And such stories take place in hotels that position themselves as luxury ones.

I decided to celebrate my 30th birthday in Cuba. My university friend Andrei Brener swore by oath that this was the only place on earth where crowds of Russian TV viewers would not attack me, and that we were in for complete relaxation. And so we, together with our friend Sveta, on January 2, 2002, found ourselves on Liberty Island in one of the best hotels on the coast, Melia Varadero. We quickly settled down and ran to the beach. When there were only a few meters to the water, three corpulent ladies blocked my path. “Three pochekati, Andri, we’re from Poltava,” said the older one, and fished out a Sony camera from a huge trunk. At first, as the head of a photo studio, she built her friends, then she got into the frame herself, then tourists from Voronezh pulled up to us, then … In general, the rest began. Two days later, desperately yawning (the tipsy tourists who flew away at dawn from Khabarovsk wished to say goodbye to me personally and rattled on the door for half an hour), we decided to spit on the hotel “paradise” and go to the beach of the town of Varadero. Stepping over the bronze bodies of the aborigines, we had almost found the coveted patch of free sand, when suddenly we heard a loud “Wow!” With the words “Andryukha! And you are here! ” MK journalist Artur Gasparyan rushed to me. The next was a fan from St. Petersburg with her dad, then a bartender from Saratov, who revealed to me the secrets of making a mojito cocktail (he flew in for a seminar to share experiences). Then it turned out that today is Bloody Sunday and I have no right not to celebrate it with the people … On the tenth day of this “complete relaxation” I fell asleep in a sun lounger near the farthest pool of our hotel. My friend was dozing too. We were awakened by the enthusiastic whisper of Sveta: “Lord! Just look who this lady is putting cream on! ” Substituting a wide, trained back to a beauty of elegant age, the best James Bond in the world looked at us – an actor Sean Connery! To be honest, we never got the camera out of the bag. Judging by the color of his skin, it was Connery’s first day off.
