Hot Toddy with bourbon (Hot Toddy)

In the world of warming drinks, as well as among cocktail classics, there are “dinosaurs”. Moreover, even when the word “cocktail” was in its infancy and was to appear many, many years later, when the great fathers of modern bar culture were just beginning to create their first masterpieces, the public of the 18th century warmed themselves with various drinks. One of the first such drinks, along with grog and mulled wine, was Hot Toddy, or simply Toddy.

In the classical interpretation, this is a mixture of hot water, sugar and Scotch whiskey, scotch. At the same time, according to domestic imbeibers, it is better to use molts, that is, single malt whiskeys and no blends, which, as a rule, are expensive and heavily alcoholized. Classic Toddy is outrageously simple, thick, warm, and most importantly, very tasty. It’s a drink in the same category as an old Nokia, a formula car or, say, a revolver – it’s hard to describe how good these things are, they’re just, in a sense, flawless perfection.

But we will begin to introduce you to the Toddy family not from the classics, but from a more adapted drink, where, due to the use of additional ingredients, you can relax a bit when choosing an alcohol base. So, to your attention is the recipe for Hot Toddy with bourbon, ginger and honey. It is this combination that is more familiar to us.

Bourbon Toddy Recipe (Hot Toddy)

Ingredients:

  • 30-60 ml bourbon;
  • 240 ml of non-carbonated water;
  • 2 tbsp. l. honey;
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger root;
  • 1 PC. cinnamon stick (optional);
  • Juice of one lemon (to taste)

Preparation:

Prepare the ingredients: grate the ginger root to make a teaspoon, squeeze the lemon juice (amount to taste).

Put 2 tablespoons of honey, grated ginger in your favorite cup and pour boiling water over everything.

Let stand for a minute, add fresh lemon juice to taste, 30-60 ml of bourbon (American whiskey), mix everything well.

Let the drink stand for another 2-3 minutes and add a slice of lemon or cinnamon stick.

Such drinks are easy and quick to prepare, and the warming effect on the face. In addition, it is not shameful to experiment with the main ingredient – alcohol. Bourbon can be replaced with any dark elite drink, for example, brandy or Calvados. Try, warm up, share your recipes. See you soon.
