If you grow Ogonyok pepper on your windowsill, you will always have homemade spice close at hand. Such a pepper in a pot is no worse than a garden pepper.
Hot peppers on the windowsill are an original decoration of the interior. But unlike ordinary indoor flowers, this decoration is very useful, because it can be used for cooking.
Here are the most popular varieties of hot pepper “Ogonyok” for indoor cultivation:
- “Red Rocket”. The peppers are yellow or red, in the form of cones. Alas, this pepper is not suitable for eating, it is completely decorative, but the peppercorns remain on the bush for up to 3 months.
- “Python”. The height of the bush is 1,4 m. The peppercorns are sweet, in the form of trunks, up to 25 cm long. The weight of one peppercorn is 60 g. Suitable for salads and pickling.
- “Troll”. A small sprawling bush. Beautiful sheets with spots and stripes. The fruits are purple, very sharp. Good for drying.
- “Jamaica”. Ideal for salting. The peppercorns are yellow with an unusual flattened shape. The flesh of the fruit is sharp, the walls are not sharp.
- The Queen of Spades. The bush bears fruit abundantly, despite its miniature size. Purple peppercorns, moderately spicy, suitable for different dishes.
The lifespan of all presented varieties is 5-6 years. They bear fruit throughout the year.
For growing peppers, choose a 3 to 5 L ceramic pot with a drain hole. Place it in a cool, well-lit place. In winter, it will have to be additionally illuminated with blue-violet lamps. It is important that the plant receives light for 12 hours a day.
The maximum temperature for growing domestic peppers is 15 ° C. At higher temperatures, the leaves turn yellow and the flowers fall off. If your apartment is very warm, high humidity will save the situation.
Pepper will most like the southwest or southeast window
It is better to prepare the ground for this vegetable yourself. Mix garden soil with humus and sand in a 2: 1: 1 ratio. Be sure to put a drainage layer on the bottom of the pot. Change the land to fresh every spring.
Water the peppers regularly. Be careful, roots will rot in excessively damp soil. Feed it every two weeks with any compound fertilizer.
