Hormones regulate the work of the whole organism. Their incorrect amount and poor functioning can cause many health problems. It is worth doing a hormone test from time to time to make sure that nothing disturbing is happening. This can be true for both women and men.

Hormone level testing – when

There are several cases where it is worthwhile to test the level of hormones in the blood. Women who suffer from menstrual problems should certainly be interested in this. Hormones very often disrupt the entire cycle and make menstruation too long or short. Hormones also affect the amount of a woman’s bleeding. But that’s not all. They are also responsible for the level of vaginal hydration.

When to do a female hormone test? When you notice disturbing symptoms that may be related to them. The examination of female hormones may be ordered by a gynecologist or specialist endocrinologist. You should also check your hormone levels when you start planning a pregnancy. This will allow you to get acquainted with your health situation. The interpretation should always be made by a doctor. Only he knows which parameters may be slightly different from the norms.

It may be necessary to check for prolactin and progesterone. In some cases it will be helpful to have your thyroid hormone levels measured. It is the thyroid gland that is often responsible for problems with getting pregnant. Usually, equalizing her hormone levels allows her to fertilize.

Hormone test – men

A man may also have hormonal problems. The most common symptoms that suggest that something is wrong with your hormones are:

  1. erectile dysfunction,
  2. sterility,
  3. development of female characteristics.

Any abnormalities should be diagnosed with an appropriate doctor as soon as possible. Thanks to the performance of several tests, the doctor will be able to thoroughly delve into the abnormalities and propose a specific method of treatment. Hormones can also reduce the sex drive in men, which negatively affects relationships in a relationship.

It may turn out that a man who suffers from a hormonal disorder has one of the genetic diseases that cause them. Sometimes an increase in testosterone in men may indicate the development of a tumor of the testicle or adrenal gland. If an elevated level of this hormone is noted in a teenager, it probably means that the boy began to mature too soon. In men, estrogens are also important. It is thanks to them that the sperm retains its ability to move and is able to fertilize the egg. As you can see, abnormal levels of hormones can trigger many symptoms. Sometimes we don’t even fully realize that something is happening. Remember to check your hormone levels from time to time.
