Hood for gas column, air duct – how to make

The geyser is one of the most widespread and economic water heaters. Despite the ease of use and compact design, the installation of the device requires the permission and participation of a specialist. Installation of a hood for a gas column is necessary, since the combustion products must be taken out into the street. How to organize and equip the duct, you will learn in the article.

Types and features of ventilation

In a private house, the output of combustion products is brought directly to the street, and in an apartment – to the ventilation duct. The advantages of a private house are that the channel locations are located in a convenient place for you. In the apartment, you have to adapt and spend more material to bring it to the mine.

Depending on the place of discharge, air ducts are divided into:

  • Chimney. They are connected to the ventilation well.
  • Coaxial. The output leads through the wall of the house.

By material of manufacture:

  • Steel pipes.
  • Aluminum, corrugated.

Aluminum corrugated pipe is lightweight, resistant to condensation. It is easier to install, because the wire inside allows you to bend the product in any direction. The standard pipe diameter is 11-13 cm.

Wire is used as a frame. Several layers of aluminum foil are applied on top and laminated. The corrugation can stretch up to three meters.

Steel chimney can be galvanized, enameled or stainless steel. Due to the smoothness of the channel, aerodynamic resistance is reduced, the pipe is less polluted.

Its advantages:

  • Reduced noise level.
  • No cracks or dirt.

The disadvantage of the design is the abundance of condensate. Therefore, in winter, additional insulation may be needed.

The coaxial outlet is especially popular. Inside, the structure is divided into two parts: one tube receives oxygen from the street for combustion, and the other is recycled. The advantage of the product is that combustion does not occur indoors.

How to properly draw

Things to consider before installation:

  • Gas column power.
  • The number of output products.
  • The temperature of the products of combustion and air outside.
  • Chimney height (for gas boilers at least 2 meters).

Height is important for generating traction. For columns, the pipe must rise above the roof by at least two meters. To install the equipment, determine the installation site and mark the attachment points. After installing the housing, connect the pipe.

If you opted for a steel duct, you will need L-shaped adapters. The joints are sealed with sealant.

Corrugated pipe is easier to install, it is flexible and long. If you need to build a piece, you can use metal tape.

SNIP rules

Follow these guidelines:

  • The hood is installed near the wall of non-combustible materials.
  • According to the regulations, no more than two devices can be connected to one hood if they are located in the same room.
  • If the building does not have chimneys and channels, you can make attached chimneys.
  • It is allowed to connect the column to the chimney of the furnace, if its design allows for efficient removal of combustion products.

Since the outlet pipes are responsible for the normal operation of gas equipment, serve as a means of protection against gas leaks and smoke removal, the choice of design must be approached very carefully. It is better to entrust the installation of the column and ventilation to a specialist. He will take into account the features of the house, make calculations and carry out the installation in accordance with all the rules.
