Homemade rosehip liqueur with citrus notes

To prepare rosehip liqueur, you need fresh, dried, dried or frozen berries. The best option is dried rose hips (requires 25% less than indicated in the recipe). Frozen berries are first thawed and dried. Fresh – sorted out, removing rotten and moldy. The result is a sweet-tart drink of moderate strength (27-30%) with a light citrus aroma. The color of the liquor depends on the rosehip variety and can vary from yellow to red.

Alcohol base – vodka diluted with water up to 40-45% alcohol or cheap cognac. You can also use double-distilled moonshine, which does not have an unpleasant odor.

Ingredients:

  • rose hips – 250 grams;
  • vodka (alcohol) – 0,5 liters;
  • sugar – 150 gram;
  • water – 100 ml;
  • orange peel – from half the fruit;
  • cinnamon – 1 stick (optional)

Lovers of sweet spirits can increase the amount of sugar to 200-250 grams. The cinnamon adds an interesting flavor note.

1. Lightly crush the berries with a wooden rolling pin, then put them in a container for infusion, for example, a glass jar.

2. Rinse the orange in warm water and wipe dry to remove the waxy substance from the surface, which increases the shelf life.

3. Using a knife or vegetable peeler, remove the zest from half of the orange (top orange part), being careful not to touch the bitter white flesh.

4. Add the zest to the jar to the wild rose, put the cinnamon stick.

5. Pour in vodka, mix, tightly close the lid.

6. Infuse for 15-20 days in a dark place at room temperature, shaking every 2-3 days.

7. Mix water and sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, boil for 3-5 minutes over low heat, removing white foam. When the foam ceases to stand out, remove the pan from the stove. Cool the finished syrup to room temperature.

8. Filter the infusion through gauze, squeeze the berries well.

9. Mix sugar syrup and rosehip infusion. If after a couple of hours the rosehip liquor has become cloudy, filter through cotton wool.

10. Pour the drink into bottles, seal tightly.
