Sushi and rolls have been gaining popularity outside their homeland – Japan for quite some time, so there are more and more different recipes for making rolls at home.

Basic information about rolls and rice

Rolls are a form of sushi, also called maki. Pressed seaweed nori is usually taken as a basis, on which rice and any seafood and vegetables are sequentially added. Rolls are formed using a special bamboo makisu mat. Before serving, the rolls are laid out on a flat dish and served along with Japanese wasabi horseradish and fresh vegetable slices. Pickled ginger and soy sauce are served in separate bowls.

For rolls, Japanese round-grain rice of the Kahomai variety is suitable, in its absence – any purchased Japanese rice

Properly selected rice plays an important role in the preparation of rolls. Before cooking, rinse the rice well, cover with water and leave for 30 minutes to completely cleanse it. Then drain the water and place the clean rice in a saucepan, pouring water in the following proportion: for 1 cup of rice 2 cups of water. Cover the saucepan and bring to a boil. After the rice has boiled, reduce heat and cook for another 15 minutes. At this time, make the rice dressing in a separate bowl – mix 30 ml of rice vinegar, 15 grams of sugar and 5 grams of salt. In a deep bowl, gently stir the cooked rice and dressing.

To prepare them, take 200 grams of rice for rolls, 100 grams of fresh or slightly salted salmon, 60 grams of Philadelphia cheese, 1 avocado, 1 cucumber, 2 sheets of pressed nori seaweed, wasabi, soy sauce, pickled ginger. Place a sheet of nori on the makisu with the smooth side up, spread the rice on the rough surface of the nori and smooth it with wet hands, stepping back 1 cm from the top and bottom edges. Top with the filling of sliced ​​cheese, cucumber and avocado. Then use a rug to roll the roll up and press it down a little, making it tighter. Place thinly sliced ​​salmon slices on top of the roll, press them down slightly and cut the roll into 6 pieces. Serve the rolls with wasabi, pickled ginger and soy sauce.

Do not overdo it with wasabi, as it is a rather spicy product, an excessive amount of which can ruin the finished dish.

Prepare 400 grams of roll rice, wasabi, crab sticks, cucumber. Place the nori on the mat, place the rice on top, spread it over the entire surface with wet hands. Squeeze a small amount of wasabi onto your finger and spread it over the entire surface of the rice. Then put the filling cut into strips in the center and roll up the roll. Cut the resulting homemade roll into 6 pieces. Serve on a flat platter with soy sauce and pickled ginger.
