What is heartburn? This is a very common ailment that everyone has experienced at least once in their life. A very unpleasant burning sensation, even a burning sensation in the esophagus in the area behind the breastbone or even in the throat, is always caused by the regurgitation of stomach contents, especially digestive acids, up the esophagus. The symptoms are always the same, but the causes may be different.
How do you recognize heartburn?
Normally, it is impossible to withdraw the stomach contents up the esophagus. However, when the lower esophageal sphincter relaxes, this terrible problem arises. When stomach contents reach the larynx and even the bronchi, it will cause inflammation of these organs, additional discomfort and complications.
The symptoms of heartburn are sometimes confused with a heart attack and vice versa, so this problem should not be underestimated in any way. Heartburn can be one of the symptoms of acid reflux, a situation where there is a chronic, abnormal regurgitation of acid from the stomach into the lumen of the esophagus. Untreated, chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease can lead to cancerous changes in the esophagus, larynx or bronchi, and even to impairment of the vocal cords. However, if you are dealing with simple heartburn, there are plenty of home remedies to help prevent unpleasant symptoms.
Home remedies for heartburn in pregnant women
Unfortunately, heartburn is a common problem in pregnant women. A pregnant woman must be particularly careful for the safety of herself and her baby. Doctors strongly advise against the use of sodium bicarbonate, commonly known as baking soda or baking soda, which is sometimes referred to as a home remedy for heartburn – in fact, it can seriously harm (the change in gastric acid pH caused by it can stop digestion and cause water retention in the body) . Fortunately, you can reach for many more home remedies for heartburn.
One of the root causes of the problem is eating in a hurry or under stress. Eating in a hurry, we swallow large amounts of air, which can lead to the relaxation of the esophageal sphincter, and thus to the passage of the stomach contents into the esophagus. Also, do not lie down immediately after a meal. The supine position promotes the passage of stomach contents up the esophagus, often leading to heartburn.
A pregnant woman should also wear loose-fitting clothes. Tight clothing will cause pressure on the stomach, which will allow its contents to flow back into the esophagus.
The factors that cause heartburn also include some medications, especially: painkillers, drugs for insomnia or blood pressure lowering drugs. Always consult your doctor about any medications you are taking while you are pregnant.
Home-made specifics or rather products to combat the symptoms of heartburn you will often find in your own kitchen. It belongs to them e.g. ginger. Chewing a thin slice of ginger for a few minutes can reduce the burning sensation. The same goes for roasted almonds. A glass of fresh milk, buttermilk or kefir can also provide relief from heartburn. Flaxseed will also help. It is enough to pour a tablespoon of ground flaxseed into a glass of boiling water and set aside for 15 minutes. Drink the prepared drink with the consistency of a thick gruel one hour before a meal and two hours before bedtime.
You can also try the Wormwood herb as an infusion for everyday use.
Apple cider vinegar will also help, adding a teaspoon to a glass of lukewarm water. You can also add a teaspoon of honey to improve the taste. Honey has, among others anti-inflammatory and soothing properties of the irritated tissue of the esophagus or bronchi, and apple cider vinegar reduces the acidity of the stomach contents. Additionally, it is worthwhile for a pregnant woman to include light tea with ginger or caraway in her diet. Try, for example, Anty-zGago – herbal and fruit tea with ginger, coriander, chamomile, fennel, chicory, plantain and mallow.

Home remedies for heartburn – milk
Experts are divided on milk and its use in the fight against heartburn symptoms. The same is true for those who are affected by this problem. For some, milk provides almost immediate relief, and for others, drinking milk does not improve the condition, and sometimes even causes it worsening of heartburn symptoms. Until the 80s, doctors in Poland claimed that milk, like baking soda, reduces the acidity of digestive juices. Unfortunately, this is not entirely true. Milk lowers the acidity of the stomach contents, unfortunately for only about 20 minutes. After this time, the heartburn problem returns.
Often times, smoking and burning symptoms increase as the stomach produces more digestive juices to digest milk, which contains fat, protein and sugar. It should also be noted that cold milk reduces the symptoms of irritation of the esophagus and larynx tissue, which may be mistaken for the acid-lowering effect of the stomach contents. Often it is only temporary and temporary help.
To improve the functioning of the digestive system, reduce heartburn and restore the acid-base balance in the body, it is worth reaching for Langsteiner alkaline powder, available in a can or in the form of tablets or effervescent tablets.
