Home first aid kit, or how to deal with diarrhea at home?

An embarrassing ailment that does not allow you to leave the house or even the toilet? What to do if you have diarrhea and can’t go to the pharmacy? At home, you certainly have products that will help you heal from this ailment quickly and effectively.

If diarrhea lasts for a short time, it can be easily treated at home, but if it lasts longer, you will need to see a doctor. But why do we get diarrhea? It can be caused by bacteria, a virus or eating, for example, fruit or bran. Diarrhea can also be the result of stress, a major change in life that causes emotional tension that focuses on the stomach and leads to diarrhoea.

Then it’s worth reaching for grandma’s methods:

  •  drinking infusions of linseed coriander or primrose. They will naturally help fight the unpleasant nuisance. If you don’t like the taste, you can sweeten the herbs with natural bee honey.
  • a diet rich in rice, puddings and boiled carrots. It is also worth reaching for bananas, apples and rusks. These products absorb water very well, which is why they effectively soothe stomach problems and make the stool more dense.
  • antidiarrheal fruits containing the so-called anthocyanins. This group includes blackcurrants, chokeberries and raw or dried blueberries. You can also drink the juice of these fruits.
  • cocoa and dark chocolate with a minimum cocoa content of 70% will stop the development of diarrhea.
  • regular meals, which should be eaten at intervals of about 2-3 hours. This will normalize the work of the stomach.
  • you should give up fatty foods, because they burden the stomach and are difficult to digest. In diarrhea, an easily digestible diet is recommended. It can be entered after zero diet, i.e. a few hours of fasting.
  • natural yoghurts, kefirs and buttermilk contain valuable live bacterial cultures – they inhibit diarrhea caused by antibiotic therapy, because they naturally protect the stomach – they act as probiotics.
  • a spoonful of ground coffee gives the stool a thicker consistency, thanks to the alkaloids contained in it.
  • a tea bag works just like a teaspoon of coffee.

During diarrhea, the body dehydrates very quickly, so it is very important to provide fluids, but also electrolytes. Electrolytes make up for the deficiency of minerals that are also lacking during diarrhea. We should primarily drink mineral water, but you can also reach for tea and drinking yoghurts. A person should drink at least 2 liters of fluids per day. When we are sick with diarrhea, this amount should be increased, remembering that highly mineralized water is very valuable. It should be chosen instead of spring water, which does not contain valuable minerals. During diarrhea, you can also eat applesauce, which will restore normal bowel function.

When we have problems with the stomach, we should avoid whole grain bread, vegetables such as broccoli, beets, cauliflower, legumes; hot spices, carbonated drinks, alcohol and vegetable juices.
