Also on Maundy Thursday, the washing of the feet of the disciples by Christ, his prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane and the betrayal of Judas are remembered.
Maundy Thursday for a Christian is a symbol of spiritual and physical cleansing. At dawn, it is customary to swim in running water (lake or river) or go to the bathhouse, take a shower. It is believed that water on this day helps to strengthen the spirit and cleanse the soul.
- according to legend, water this day will wash away all ailments, ailments and give health and beauty;
- according to tradition, on this day you need to go to church to receive communion and confess;
- after visiting the temple and cleansing the soul, they begin to thoroughly clean the home;
- on this day, you need to get rid of trash, but give nothing to other people. You can throw away what you do not need, but you cannot give it. Otherwise, well-being will leave the house;
- according to legend, on this day they don’t lend, and they don’t share kitchen utensils with anyone;
- housewives bake cakes, paint Easter eggs, prepare Thursday salt.
Interesting signs of Easter week for girls:
- if you hit your elbow, then your beloved remembers;
- a fly fell into the cabbage soup – expect a date;
- suddenly your lips will itch, which means you will kiss;
- if the eyebrows are itching – this is a meeting with a loved one.
On Bright Sunday, even hunters did not shed blood according to their traditions, since it was believed that animals also celebrate the Resurrection of Christ.
And even thieves with criminals have created Easter signs, such as stealing while worshiping. In their opinion, if everything went well, it means that no one will be able to catch them all year for their dishonorable deeds.
And the folk calendar for Easter could determine the weather for the future. If it is sunny and clear on this holiday, this is a good harvest, and if it rained, there will be good rye.
The whole Bright week should last a holiday with a laid table, to which everyone was invited, especially the poor, the poor, the sick. After all, they could not afford it, and doing good deeds on Easter is sacred.
