Motion sickness is also called motion sickness or motion sickness. Symptoms are triggered when traveling, when the stimuli received by different senses are significantly different, which makes it difficult to interpret them. For example, visual stimuli say something completely different about the position of the body, like stimuli reaching the brain from the labyrinth (responsible for the sense of balance). This causes symptoms typical of motion sickness: vomiting, nausea, malaise, or more often with seasickness – also digestive ailments.
When do motion sickness symptoms occur?
Both when we travel by car, by train – “on land”, as well as when traveling by sea (seasickness) or by air. Whenever our body is in motion, it does not move by itself.
Various manifestations of the disease
In the early stages, or in some people, mild symptoms can be noticed, such as travel fatigue, significant fatigue, frequent yawning while traveling, or persistent weakness and headache. In the case of more severe symptoms, there are the already mentioned nausea, vomiting, but also dizziness and cold sweats.
How to deal with motion sickness?
- Choose, if possible, means of transport where you will not be exposed to the smell of exhaust fumes. For example, we will choose to travel by train instead of the bus
- When traveling in any form of transport, sit down so that you are facing the direction of travel, not facing it
- When driving a car, remember to avoid sudden accelerations and sudden braking
- When traveling, let’s rather look either ahead or not look at the windows at all. It is best to cover them so as not to confuse our senses and not to watch the rapidly moving landscape
- Before traveling, it is worth eating a small and light meal. When traveling, it is recommended to drink large amounts of non-carbonated mineral water
- You should also rest and sleep properly before traveling
- Wear loose clothing and do not use strong perfumes or deodorants. Such smells can also intensify the symptoms of motion sickness
- If you feel nauseous, open a window and get some fresh air. Focus on your breathing and breathe deeply and smoothly
- Of course, before traveling, it is also worth visiting a pharmacy and buying special medicines to help with the symptoms of motion sickness. In Poland, one brand of similar drugs is particularly popular, but pharmacists will help you choose from a range of different drugs those that will be most suitable for a given person
