Hitaxa – composition and action of the drug
Properties of the drug Hitaxa are associated with the presence of the active ingredient – desloratadine. Due to the presence of desloratadine, the preparation belongs to the group of second-generation antihistamines.
It works by selectively blocking peripheral type 1 histamine receptors, thus preventing allergy-specific symptoms. Desloratadine is practically devoid of sedative effects as it is non-CNS depleting.
Desloratadine is a compound that is the main active metabolite of loratadine. Both of these compounds are histamine antagonists and selectively block peripheral type 1 histamine receptors. Thus, peripherally the histamine which is responsible for allergic symptoms is inhibited peripherally.
To understand the mechanism of action of drugs containing Desloratadine, it is necessary to understand the action of histamine itself. Histamine is an amine that occurs naturally in our body. This amine is involved in the formation of inflammatory processes. It is called an inflammatory mediator. Histamine is produced, among others, by in the lungs, nasal and stomach mucosa and skin.
Histamine works by stimulating histamine receptors, which leads to contraction of smooth muscles, including bronchitis or increase the permeability of venous vessels. The consequences of this action are swelling, blisters or other skin changes, itching and pain.
It is worth mentioning that vitro desloratadine inhibits the release of cytokines by human mast cells and basophils. These mechanisms are believed to be responsible for reducing the allergic reaction.
Desloratadine relieves symptoms of allergies, including: sneezing, runny nose, watery and red eyes, swelling and itching of the mucous membranes, and hives.
In addition to desloratadine, Hitaxa also contains excipients, including: potassium polyacryline, citric acid monohydrate, red iron oxide (E 172), magnesium stearate, croscarmellose sodium, Tutti Frutti flavor, liquid (also contains propylene glycol), aspartame (E 951) , microcrystalline cellulose, mannitol (spray-dried), potassium hydroxide (for pH adjustment).

Desloratadine – absorption and metabolism
Desloratadine is a compound that is well absorbed after oral administration. Its maximum concentration in the blood is achieved approximately 3 hours after taking the drug.
It is difficult to talk about the metabolism of this compound because the enzyme responsible for the metabolism of desloratadine has not yet been known. Therefore, an interaction of Hitaxa with other medicinal preparations cannot be ruled out. The effect of desloratadine after administration lasts longer than 24 hours, on average about 27 hours.
