Histigen and Meniere’s disease
Meniere’s disease is a disease of the inner ear, characterized by symptoms that are extremely troublesome for the patient. These include, first of all, severe and recurring attacks of vertigo, worsening hearing loss, tinnitus and a feeling of fullness in the ear canal. The onset of the disease usually occurs between the ages of 30-50, the percentage of sick men and women is very similar. Usually, the disease affects one ear, but approximately 45 percent of patients develop the disease in the other ear.
Meniere’s disease excess fluid in the membranous labyrinthwhich leads to the formation of an endolymphatic labyrinth hydrocele.
Histigen is successfully used in the treatment of Meniere’s disease. The effective action of the drug is manifested by the inhibition of the development of the disease, which allows patients to enjoy relatively good quality of hearing for a long time. Histigen also largely eliminates the second symptom of Meniere’s disease – severe dizziness.
Histigen – action and dosage of the drug
Histigen is an orally administered drug. It has been observed that the best effects are achieved by patients taking the drug with meals, which is related to the absorption of active substances. Histigen cannot be used without consulting a doctor. Each patient has individual factors influencing dose selection, but usually patients take between 24 and 48 mg a day in several doses.
The substance responsible for the operation of Histigen is betahistyna. Betahistine has a positive effect on the treatment of vertigo. This is due to the specific properties of betahistine, allowing it to change blood flow in the inner ear and the stimulating effect of betahistine on the neurons of the vestibular nuclei. Betahistine also has a beneficial effect on the pulmonary epithelium, contributing to an increase in its capacity.
Histigen is absorbed very quickly. The maximum concentration of Histigen is observed about one hour after taking it.
Histigen – side effects
The most common side effects of taking Histigen include nausea, digestive disorders, stomach and intestinal pain, gas and gas. It is worth remembering that taking Histigen with a meal helps to eliminate some of the side effects related to the digestive system.
Symptoms such as headache, drowsiness, itching, rash and hives are mentioned as common.
The use of Histigen is excluded if the patient is hypersensitive to betahistine and other ingredients of the preparation. It is also impossible to take Histigen in patients who have a phaeochromocytoma of the adrenal gland.
The use of Histigen in children and adolescents has not been studied so far, therefore this group is not recommended for use due to potential side effects. Betahistine should not be used during pregnancy unless clearly necessary. It is not known whether betahistine is excreted in human milk.
