Highlighting during pregnancy: is it possible to do what paint to choose
A pregnant woman often has to deal with restrictions. We are talking not only about the diet and medicines, but also about individual cosmetic procedures, among which hair coloring takes an ambiguous position.
Why hair dye is dangerous during pregnancy
In the early 2000s, it was suggested that highlighting during pregnancy should not be done, since hydrogen nitride and other chemicals contained in dyes penetrate the scalp into the blood of the expectant mother, affecting the central nervous system of the fetus. However, this theory remained a theory: scientists did not conduct research.
So is it possible to do highlights during pregnancy? Even obstetricians-gynecologists do not give unequivocal recommendations on this matter. The question still remains open, so pregnant women act at their own peril and risk.
How to minimize the harmful effects of paint?
Highlighting is perhaps the most acceptable way of staining for the expectant mother, because during the procedure, the paint practically does not come into contact with the scalp. To keep the remaining risks to a minimum, take care of the following points:
- do not highlight in the first trimester of pregnancy, since during this period the baby’s organs are formed;
- say no to paints containing ammonia;
- while dyeing, put on a simple respiratory mask to protect the respiratory system from harmful fumes;
- perform highlighting only near an open window or hood;
- Try replacing traditional hair dye with natural counterparts such as henna or tonic.
Thus, staining during pregnancy is quite possible if you perform it at a later date, carefully consider the choice of dyes and respiratory protection during the procedure itself.
