Highlighter: reviews, how to apply, where to buy

– In the last article about the editor’s favorite tools, I talked about the highlighter. But I love this makeup product so much that there are at least 15 shining powders in my cosmetic bag! I also put my favorite edition on the highlighter, now this is our common secret of the perfect make-up.

I am very sensitive to the professional brand MAC. Most of the brand’s products that have been tried did not disappoint me. I have been chasing the Lightscapade shade for a long time: it is a hit among highlighters, so it is very quickly sold out in stores.

Expectations: The highlighter should be created from a microscopic shimmer that will not look like glitter, but will give the skin a radiance, will not dry out and dehydrate the skin.

Reality: Since I am of the opinion that the highlighter should only be applied with your fingers, the lack of a brush did not disappoint me in the least. The product is easily and tightly applied, and also absolutely does not dry the skin, which is an undoubted plus, because in the summer you do not want to use tonal products at all.

MAC Lightscapade works great as a stand-alone product and requires no makeup base. Firmness is excellent. The only drawback that did not upset me at all was the lack of a mirror, but the tool fully justifies this small defect.

– I really like such an invention as a highlighter. As soon as you apply it in a thin layer under the eyebrows, on the back of the nose and on the cheekbones, the face will immediately shine and freshen up. In general, the right thing.

Of course, I’ve heard about Make Up For Ever cosmetics. And only positive reviews. But before our beauty distribution, I did not use any of the brand’s products.

Appearance: in principle, all the jars of Make Up For Ever in black packaging are very nice to me. I love minimalism. In addition, Compact Shine powder is comfortable to hold and easy to open. I was also pleased that a soft and comfortable sponge was attached to it.

Expectations: in the description for Compact Shine it is said that the product will create the effect of highlighting and shining accents on the face and décolleté. I needed all this. The main thing is to look natural.

Reality: I applied powder in two ways: on a perfectly clean face and on a BB cream. In the first case, she lay down unevenly and crumbled during the day. But, of course, this was very expected. It is unlikely that makeup artists would approve of this method of applying makeup … In the second case, the product behaved much better: it lay down well and lasted the entire working day (about 8 hours).

So for the durability of Compact Shine, you can put a solid five.

But to be honest, I didn’t really like the effect of the powder. There are too many glitters in its texture. It doesn’t look very natural.

– The Revitalash brand has always been associated with me exclusively with means for the growth of eyelashes and eyebrows, and I was extremely surprised when I learned that their line of products also includes a highlighter.

Appearance: creamy highlighter in the form of a pencil.

Expectations: Adds radiance and enhances facial features.

Reality: I am picky about this category of products: for my taste, many products have too noticeable sparkles in their composition. In my opinion, this effect is good for a photo or video, but I usually don’t want to look like the queen of the party every day.

I liked the highlighter from Revitalash, first of all, because it glows on the skin, and does not sparkle. Secondly, it has an incredibly beautiful color – a golden beige shade looks great with a tan.

However, it turned out to be not so easy to apply. It would seem that the shape determines the convenience, but in fact the pencil is very dry, especially in comparison with the creamy textures. It is convenient to apply it directly from the stick only in the corner of the eye, when applied under the eyebrow or on the cheekbones, it stretches the skin and, as it seemed to me, lies unevenly.

I have adapted to apply it first on the finger, and only then on those areas that I want to lighten. And yes, I must add that the pencil is incredibly durable, so you need to shade it quickly.

And it seems to me that the result is obvious. But in order.

Expectations: fresh complexion, correction of problem areas.

Reality: the highlighter palette is such a beige rainbow. There are several shades in it – shimmering tones of ivory, delicate pink, splashes of champagne, lilac and peach. Here it is, the first plus – you can choose any shade that you need. And use it not only as a highlighter, but also as a shadow. Or mix all the colors for beautiful, radiant skin. True, in the latter case, it is necessary to apply it with a brush, and this turned out to be not very convenient for me: it takes a lot of funds, but in the end it “eats up” the entire effect. When I applied the highlighter with my fingers, the shine was more noticeable. But then it is difficult to mix colors. Dilemma! But for local areas, Smashbox Baked Fusion Soft Lights are indispensable: I liked to emphasize their eyebrows and add shine to the inner corners of the eyes. It looks very natural and fresh.

Rating: 9 out of 10. I took off the point just because for me this highlighter is not universal.

– I rarely use highlighters, too often they come across too shiny and not suitable for daily wear. However, Pupa made me happy.

I apply it most often with my fingers, one stroke on the pillow – and immediately on the area on the face: the highlighter gives a pleasant gentle glow, just a glow, and not a lot of sparkles. The skin immediately begins to glow from the inside, the highlighter can also be used as an eye shadow to brighten the inner corner of the eyes.

Appearance: beautiful design, large comfortable mirror.

Expectations: the manufacturer talks about a compact, silky formula, which contains a large number of ultra-luminous pearls with a diffused light effect. When applied to the raised areas of the face, it emphasizes them, giving a unique effect of pure gold.

The elegant scent includes notes of white flowers and citrus petals for a delicate enveloping sensation.

Reality: I liked the highlighter, it looks very beautiful on the face. Gives a fresh, rested look.

– In fact, I never thought about how important it is to use a highlighter in makeup. Until I got a test tool for the German brand Senna, which, by the way, I was not familiar with before. After several days of application, I came to the conclusion that a highlighter as a finishing touch is necessary to have in a cosmetic bag.

Appearance: standard packaging, which includes several shades of a compact highlighter. The brush is not provided, but this is more a plus than a minus. I prefer to use professional makeup brushes.

Expectations: in fact, I didn’t know what to expect, because up to this point I considered this element of cosmetics to be absolutely useless.

Reality: I am delighted. The package contains two shades of highlighter (light and dark bronze), which can be mixed or used separately. The product has a delicate texture and fine shimmer, is easy to apply and perfectly refreshes the face. The main thing is to remember that this is not a corrective foundation, so use the product wisely.
