High-risk food: foods that accumulate radiation
It turns out that every year, luminous delicacies are removed from the markets.
The other day Rospotrebnadzor issued another warning: do not buy anything along roads and highways. Will come out more expensive. And at the same time he said that every year in the markets they find berries and mushrooms, which have an increased radiation background. By what miracle do they even hit the shelves? Very simple – “gifts of the forest” are collected in areas that have suffered from the release of radiation during the Chernobyl accident. 34 years have passed, and its consequences are still palpable.
In addition, the department said that tourists from Belarus often bring radioactive food with them. There they buy wild plants from local residents, who, in turn, pick mushrooms and berries right along the road.
Foods that accumulate radiation the most
mushrooms – they absorb everything harmful from the environment, like a sponge. Carcinogens and radionuclides from water, soil and air accumulate in the leg and cap, and then the mushroom gives all this wealth to the prepared dish. Therefore, you can even get poisoned by a deliberately edible mushroom, and experts repeat from year to year: if you want real mushrooms, climb into the forest away from roads and highways. And, of course, production.
Blueberries – about the benefits of this berry just right to make legends. Rich in powerful antioxidants, it preserves youth, fights against free radicals that provoke the development of tumors, and improves vision. It accumulates radionuclides even more efficiently than others. Therefore, it must be collected in places that can be safely called environmentally friendly.
Cranberries, like blueberries, has an increased ability to accumulate radionuclides. Therefore, it is better to go for cranberries yourself in some distant swamps. But buying it along the roads is definitely not worth it.
Strontium-90 accumulates mainly in bones, and bone tissue, bone marrow, and hematopoietic system are exposed to radiation. As a result, anemia develops, otherwise called anemia. The half-life of strontium from the skeleton is over 30 years, and it is almost impossible to accelerate this process.
The second most dangerous to humans Cesium-137 mainly deposited in muscle tissue. It is well accumulated by plants and, getting into food, is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. About 10% of the radionuclide is quickly excreted from the body, the rest is much slower. Its half-life is 30 years.
Products with the highest radiation background from nature
All things emit radiation. This is a fact that should not be feared. After all, as long as the background power does not exceed the permissible limit, everything is in order. Among the products there are “radioactive” champions – again, absolutely safe.
bananas very useful due to the high content of potassium in the composition. But few people know that bananas contain an isotope of potassium-40, which actively emits radiation. This is why bananas react to ionizing radiation detectors – devices that scan imported goods to prevent the smuggling of radioactive materials.
Brazil nuts – their radiation level can be 1000 times higher than in conventional products. This is because Brazil nuts grow on trees with very deep roots. These roots reach down to soil layers with a high content of radium, a naturally occurring radioactive element. The roots absorb radium, which then phonites in the nuts. Fortunately, all the same radiation detectors do not allow the import of products that could harm the body. But just in case, remembering the recommended rate of nuts – 30 g per day – does not hurt.
Fonning food rating
The human body also emits radiation. Moreover, most of the background sources enter our body with food. The Ministry of Emergency Situations has compiled a rating of products that most of all “enrich” a person with radionuclides.
The main suppliers of radionuclides to the body are cereals… Bread, bakery products, all flour, cereals – cereals absorb radionuclides from water and soil, and then give it to us.
In second place – milk, which is generally recommended as a product that can fight radiation.
On the third place – potatoes, vegetables and fruits… So when vegans say their diet is the healthiest in the world, don’t believe it.
“Adherents of a raw food diet and vegetarians are in the most disadvantageous position in terms of radiation exposure, and lovers of Mediterranean cuisine are in the most advantageous position,” the Ministry of Emergency Situations confirms.
In fourth place – meat and fish… The only exception is counterfeit beef brought from areas contaminated with radiation.
“It is forbidden to live on these lands. People have been resettled from there a long time ago, illegal “squatters” in such villages may be. They graze livestock in contaminated meadows. It is possible to raise cattle in a territory with an unfavorable ecological situation, but three months before slaughter, the cows are transferred to pure feed, and the meat is self-purified from cesium: it is removed from the body of the livestock. Unscrupulous private traders can use local feed, but they cannot legally sell such meat, therefore they trade from cars along highways or in the courtyards of residential buildings. As a rule, such sellers do not have documents confirming the origin of meat, its safety and the results of laboratory control for contamination with radioactive substances, ”the Rospotrebnadzor explains.
Well, the smallest amount of radionuclides enters the human body from seafood – seawater is too rich in minerals to succumb to contamination with strontium and cesium, the main radioactive elements.
