The first thought is the flu. This is often the case. But not always.
One of the most unexpected causes of a baby’s temperature for parents is overheating. In the summer it’s still okay: the sun, the heat, everything is clear here. But even in winter, a child can overheat if he is too carefully wrapped up, at home to keep all windows tightly closed so that not the slightest draft does not slip through, and even to dress him, saying: “The heat of the bones does not ache.” Modern parents, however, rarely sin with this, but grandmothers do happen. The baby can overheat in a hot bath. But if this reason does not fit, one must look for another.
Famous doctor
“The most common causes of fever without signs of ARVI are viral infections (CMV, Epstein-Barr, adenoviruses, enteroviruses, arboviruses, etc.). They can proceed without symptoms at all or have some symptoms that are not typical for ARVI – a rash, discharge from the eyes, etc., ”the doctor explains.
Anna also recalled an infection such as roseola: the temperature rises to 39-40 degrees, lasts 3-4 days, then subsides, and only after that a rash appears. That’s it – no more symptoms.
The second group of causes is local infections that can affect the ears, tonsils, urinary system and other organs and systems.
The third group is the rarest.
“Tuberculosis, brucellosis, cat scratch disease, leptospirosis, salmonellosis, toxoplasmosis, tularemia, hepatitis viruses, etc. Local infections include infective endocarditis, intra-abdominal abscess, granulomatous hepatitis, mastoiditis, and others. , leukemia and lymphoma, neuroblastoma, hepatoma, sarcoma and other diseases, ”Anna Levadnaya lists the possible causes.
If the temperature persists for more than 8 days, the doctor must exclude these diseases.
There are other causes of a high fever without colds:
– negative impact – burns, frostbite, blow;
– food poisoning;
– overwork;
– allergy to drugs (unlike other types of allergies, it often does not cause any other symptoms other than fever);
– Teething – but here the temperature rises to 37-38 degrees and lasts no more than two days;
– scarlet fever, measles, chickenpox and other infections that are accompanied by a rash, but not a cough and runny nose;
– inflammation of the larynx;
– swollen lymph nodes;
– meningitis, encephalitis and other diseases of the nervous system.
As you can see, there are many reasons, so you should consult a doctor so that he can make an accurate diagnosis.
Do not bring down the temperature below 38,5 ° C. In this case, the best thing you can do for your baby is to provide him with plenty of warm drinks, light and balanced nutrition, and a clean and ventilated room. It is best if the room is cool and the baby is covered with a warm blanket. If the temperature does not drop within a few days or does not go astray after the antipyretic, be sure to call your doctor at home.
During an elevated temperature in a child, it is strictly prohibited:
- warm foot baths;
- mustard plasters;
- alcohol compresses;
- inhalation of any kind.
As for the old folk method of rubbing with water and vinegar, it is not prohibited. However, the effectiveness of this method has not been scientifically confirmed. What’s more, vinegar can be toxic to young children.
A doctor should appear in any doubtful case. Self-medication should never be done, moreover, to treat a child when there is no exact diagnosis. However, Anna Levadnaya compiled a list of symptoms in which you do not need to wait for the doctor to come to your home, but urgently need to dial 03:
– the temperature under 40 and above does not go astray;
– the child drinks little or cannot swallow;
– severe breathing disorder, barking cough;
– the clarity of consciousness is disturbed, lethargy or, conversely, agitation, convulsions have increased;
– with symptoms of meningitis: a rash that does not fade when pressed, headache, photophobia, bulging of the large fontanelle, the child cannot bend his head or bend his knee from a prone position;
– increasing abdominal pain.
