Hibiscus syrup can be diluted with hot water and drunk as tea.

Or diluted with cold water and cooled with ice cubes, getting a wonderful drink to quench your thirst.

Easy Hibiscus Syrup Recipe

Ingredients

  1. Karkade – 20 flowers

  2. Water – 350 ml

  3. Sugars – 500 g

Method of preparation

  1. Pour boiling water over hibiscus flowers, cover with a lid and let it brew for 15 minutes.

  2. Strain the tincture through a fine strainer, add sugar.

  3. Place over low heat and stir with a wooden spoon until sugar dissolves.

  4. Remove the syrup from the stove and let it cool.

  5. While still warm, transfer to an airtight container and seal tightly. Keep refrigerated.

Alternative Hibiscus Syrup Recipe

Ingredients

  1. Water – 4 cups

  2. Sugar – 2 cups

  3. Finely chopped hyacinth – 1 cup

  4. Lemon juice – 1 tsp

  5. Vanilla – 1 pod

Method of preparation

  1. Combine water, sugar and hibiscus flowers in a large saucepan. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally. Add lemon juice.

  2. Separate and clean the vanilla seeds from the vanilla beans and add the seeds to the pot. Add a vanilla pod as well; stir until sugar melts. Remove from fire.

  3. Let the mixture stand for 30 minutes. Strain the mixture through a fine sieve; strain again through cheesecloth or tea towel to remove fine powdered hibiscus residue.

  4. Pour the syrup into a sterilized container and close tightly.

  5. Let the syrup stand at room temperature until chilled, about 1 hour. Move the container to the refrigerator.

  6. The syrup will keep in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks.
