Herpex for skin infections caused by the herpes virus. How to use?

Herpex is a drug used in dermatology to treat the symptoms of primary and recurrent skin infections caused by the herpes virus. The preparation has an antiviral effect. Herpex is available as a cream and is available without a prescription.

Herpex indications for use

The active ingredient of Herpex cream is acyclovir – topical antiviral drug. The preparation is used in the treatment of primary and recurrent skin infections (herpes of the lips and genitals) caused by the herpes simplex virus types 1 and 2.

Dosage of Herpex: apply a thin layer of cream to the infected skin area 5 times a day every 4 hours (with a night break); is usually used for 5 days.

Herpex and contraindications and warnings

Hypersensitivity to any component of the preparation is a contraindication to the use of Herpex.

Herpex – warnings:

  1. Herpex should not be used on the mucous membranes (e.g. of the mouth, eyes or vagina).
  2. In case of severe disorders of the immune system, medical advice should be sought before starting treatment.
  3. The use of Herpex during pregnancy only after consulting a doctor and only if absolutely necessary.
  4. Herpes is contagious. Before and after applying the cream, wash your hands to prevent complications or spreading the infection to other parts of the skin.
  5. During treatment, do not scratch the blisters and scabs and avoid touching them with a towel.
  6. To reduce the risk of spreading the infection to others, do not allow skin lesions to be touched, shared towels, etc.

Herpex – interactions: After topical administration of the preparation, the known interactions are not clinically relevant.

Herpex – side effects: The following may occur at the application site: prickling, tingling, discomfort, redness, dryness, itching, peeling of the skin, contact dermatitis has been rarely observed. In most cases, the allergic reaction was caused by the excipients contained in the preparation medium.
